Squid Game the Experience NYC review

If you’re thinking about doing the Squid Game: The Experience in New York on your trip, here’s how my experience went!

What is it:

Over an hour you will complete 5 Squid Game challenges/games with a group of contestants that you’ll recognize from the TV show or reality game series including the most famous Red Light Green Light game with Young-hee!

Some of the games are solo and some involve being teammates with other contestants!

After 5 games, there will be one winner that gets a special mask!

Other things there:

There’s a bar as well as a pop up convenience store selling popular Korean snacks!

Highlights:

Red Light Green Light! But all the games were really fun, the hour goes by fast because you’re having fun!

Overall:

This was such a fun experience to do with friends! Even if you go with one or two people you can join the experience with strangers and it’s almost more like the real thing except everyone survives!

This is great for people looking for interactive activities in New York, you like Squid Game, and enjoy playing games!

Cost: $39

... Read moreOkay, so you're probably wondering more about the vibe and what to expect beyond just the games, right? I totally get it! When I went to the Squid Game Experience in NYC, I was a bit nervous but mostly excited to see how they'd bring the show to life. First off, about the 'how long is the Squid Game experience' question – yes, it's about an hour of gameplay. But let me tell you, that hour absolutely flies by! From the moment you step into the themed rooms, you're constantly moving, thinking, and interacting. There's hardly a moment to catch your breath, which is exactly what makes it so immersive. The sense of urgency is real, a bit like the show, but thankfully with much lower stakes! The 'squid game timer' you see in pictures definitely adds to that pressure, making each challenge feel like a race against the clock. The 'Red Light, Green Light' game was, without a doubt, a major highlight. Seeing that giant Young-hee doll in person, surrounded by other 'players' on those illuminated green and red floor panels, was surreal. The whole 'players field' setup, complete with string lights and the background music, really transports you. You feel those red Squid Game guard suits with masks watching your every move. It’s an exhilarating rush, and even though you know it's a game, you can't help but get fully into character, trying your best not to move when Young-hee turns her head! Beyond Young-hee, there are four other challenges, and they do a fantastic job of varying the gameplay. Some require solo focus, while others are all about teamwork. It’s a great way to bond with your friends or even make new ones in your group, which is a surprisingly fun part of the 'genesis' of the whole experience – seeing strangers come together to try and 'survive' the games! The attention to detail in creating the various game zones is truly impressive, making each transition feel like you're entering a new part of the Squid Game world. After the intense gameplay, it was awesome to unwind. There’s a cool bar where you can grab a themed drink, and a pop-up convenience store selling popular Korean snacks. It’s a nice touch that extends the experience beyond just the games, letting you debrief with your group and soak in the atmosphere a bit longer. It genuinely makes for a fantastic interactive activity in New York, whether you're a die-hard fan or just looking for something uniquely fun to do. If you're planning to go, I'd suggest wearing comfortable shoes – you'll be moving around quite a bit! Also, don't be shy to interact with your fellow contestants; it really enhances the team-based games. And definitely check out the Korean snacks; they're a yummy way to refuel after all that intense gaming. Overall, it's a super memorable outing that really captures the spirit of Squid Game without any of the actual danger, making it an experience I'd totally recommend!
