Why does it get to weighed down :(
Okay, let's be real – who hasn't had that moment of applying mascara, only to step back and realize your lashes look... heavier? Not the fluffy, lifted look you were going for. I've been there so many times, feeling like my lashes genuinely *looked better before mascara*! It's super frustrating when you want that dramatic curl but end up with droopy, weighed-down lashes that make your eyes look tired. It shouldn't feel like you're trying to lift tiny dumbbells with your eyelids just to keep your lashes from falling flat! The good news is, you're not alone, and there are definitely ways to combat this common mascara woe. I've experimented a lot, and here are my go-to tips to keep those beautiful long lashes lifted and light all day long. 1. The Right Mascara Formula is Key This is probably the biggest game-changer. Not all mascaras are created equal when it comes to weight. If you're constantly battling droop, the formula might be the culprit. Tubing Mascaras: These are my absolute favorite for preventing droop. They form tiny tubes around each lash, which tend to be much lighter than traditional wax-based formulas. Plus, they don't smudge, making them great for all-day wear! Cleanup is a breeze, too. Waterproof Formulas: While sometimes a bit drying, waterproof mascaras are excellent at holding a curl because they have less water content and a stronger film-forming polymer. Just make sure to remove them gently with a good oil-based cleanser. Lightweight Volumizing/Lengthening: Look for mascaras specifically marketed as 'lightweight' or 'airy.' Avoid overly thick, heavy formulas if you're prone to droop, as these can quickly add too much weight. 2. Don't Skip the Lash Curler! A good lash curler is your best friend when it comes to achieving and maintaining a lifted look. Always curl your lashes before mascara application. Technique: Start at the base of your lashes, gently squeeze for a few seconds, then move slightly up the lash and squeeze again. Repeat 2-3 times until you get a nice, even curl. Don't press too hard, and make sure your curler pads are in good condition. Heated Curler (Optional): For stubborn lashes that refuse to hold a curl, a gentle heated lash curler used before mascara can make a huge difference in locking in that curl. 3. The Magic of a Lash Primer If your lashes still struggle with holding a curl or getting weighed down, a lash primer can be a lifesaver. It provides a base that helps mascara adhere better, adds a bit of grip for the curl, and sometimes even adds volume without the weight of extra mascara coats. Apply one thin coat of primer and let it dry slightly (about 30 seconds) before you go in with your mascara. 4. Application Matters: Less is More (Sometimes!) How you apply your mascara can drastically affect how heavy your lashes feel and whether they stay lifted. Wiggle at the Base: Start by wiggling the wand right at the base of your lashes to deposit most of the product there. This gives your lashes a 'push-up' effect and helps lift from the root. Sweep Upwards Lightly: Then, sweep the wand upwards to the tips. Avoid overloading the tips, as this is where the weight will pull your curl down the most. Thin Coats: Instead of one thick, heavy coat, try two thin coats. Let the first coat dry for about 15-30 seconds before applying the second. This prevents clumping and unnecessary weight. Wipe Excess: Always wipe any excess product off the wand onto a tissue before applying. Too much product immediately means too much weight, leading to droop. 5. Don't Forget the Lower Lashes If you apply mascara to your lower lashes, use a very light hand. Too much product here can not only create a heavy, tired look but also transfer easily. Sometimes, I even just use the very tip of the wand holding it vertically, or skip lower lash mascara altogether for a lighter, more natural feel. My Personal Tip: The 'Lift and Hold' Method After applying mascara, if I feel my lashes are starting to droop, I sometimes gently use a clean spoolie or even my (clean!) fingertip to push them up and hold for a few seconds while the mascara fully dries. This helps 'set' the curl and reminds those lashes to stay put. It really is a journey to find what works best for your unique lashes, but with these tips, you won't have to realize that your lashes 'looked better before mascara' anymore! Say goodbye to heavy, droopy lashes and hello to beautiful, lifted length!
