DIML: First Clinical of the Semester🩺

today was a VERY long day but so inspiring! this semester, my clinicals are on the med surg and pediatric units which i’ve really been looking forward to. for my first shift today, i was on the med surg unit where i was paired with an amazing nurse who really involved me into the care she was providing to her patients. i had multiple opportunities to pass meds and started primary & secondary IV meds. i really felt like a little nurse! and i could actually see myself working on a med surg unit in the future. throughout my clinical rotations this semester, i really want to work on being more confident in my capabilities.

having two 10-hour clinical shifts back to back days each week will definitely be hard, but i’m excited to see how much i’ll grow this semester :)

... Read moreAs I embark on my clinical journey, the excitement and challenges of nursing become more prominent. This semester features intensive clinical shifts where I’m gaining crucial hands-on experience in both med-surg and pediatrics. With my first day behind me, I had the opportunity to directly care for patients, witness professional nursing in action, and take part in administering medications through IVs. Such experiences are invaluable as they not only bolster my technical skills but also enhance my confidence in caring for patients effectively. The importance of these clinicals cannot be understated as they prepare us for the rigors of real-world nursing. Building on the foundation learned in nursing school, these shifts play a critical role in integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. I look forward to mastering my clinical skills, collaborating with fellow nurses, and contributing positively to patient care. Balancing two 10-hour shifts a week alongside my studies will be challenging but is also an opportunity for significant personal and professional growth in the nursing field. Moreover, focusing on self-care and time management will be essential as I navigate this demanding yet rewarding journey. From managing my morning alarms to ensuring I have nutritious meals to fuel my busy days, every aspect matters. Join me as I document my growth, learning experiences, and the realities of nursing student life throughout this semester!
