Meal Prep Like A Pro part 2!
Part 2 is here! In this one we're taking everything we prepped in Part 1 and inputting it into our food tracking app so we actually know what we're eating. I use Cronometer to track my food.
I know this part can feel like a lot so save this video and come back to it as many times as you need. It really comes down to three steps:
1. Raw measurements — weigh your food before it's cooked
2. Final measurements — weigh after it's cooked
3. Divide the final weight by the number of servings to get your accurate calories per portion

After mastering the basics of weighing food raw and cooked, you're already on your way to truly understanding your nutrition! But Cronometer is more than just a calorie counter; it's a powerful tool that, once you know its deeper features, can revolutionize your meal prep and tracking. I want to share some of my personal game-changing tips that have helped me leverage Cronometer to its fullest, especially when I’m meal prepping like a pro. One of the first things I learned to maximize is Cronometer’s Custom Recipes feature. You saw in the main article how crucial it is to weigh your food before and after cooking to account for water loss. Cronometer makes this incredibly easy! When I create a new recipe, I add all my raw ingredients with their weights. Then, after cooking, I weigh the entire cooked batch and use the 'Set Cooked Recipe Weight' option. This step is a lifesaver! Cronometer then accurately calculates the Nutrition Facts, calories, protein, carbs, and fat per serving based on the cooked weight. This means my energy summary for each meal is always spot-on, and I don’t have to manually adjust for cooking losses. It saves so much time and ensures precision, especially when I'm trying to hit specific macronutrient targets. Another feature I often use, which is super handy for meal preppers, is Custom Foods. Sometimes, I buy local produce or a specific brand that isn't in Cronometer's extensive database. Instead of guessing, I simply create a new custom food entry. I’ll either input the nutritional information from the package or estimate based on similar items, allowing me to track everything accurately without compromise. This is particularly useful for homemade sauces or spice blends where exact quantities might be harder to track individually. For those of us who meal prep, consistency is key, and Cronometer offers brilliant ways to streamline this. The Custom Meals and Repeat Items features are invaluable. Once I've prepped a week's worth of lunches, for example, I can save that specific combination of foods as a 'Custom Meal.' Then, logging it each day is just a couple of taps – no need to re-enter everything! Similarly, for daily supplements or regular snacks, 'Repeat Items' ensures they’re automatically added, making sure my tracking is comprehensive without being tedious. I've found that using the barcode scanner for packaged goods also speeds things up immensely. My final personal tip for making Cronometer work for you is to review your Energy Summary and Macronutrient Targets regularly. At the end of the day, I take a quick look at how close I was to my goals for protein, carbs, and fat. This isn't about perfection, but about learning. If I consistently miss my protein target, I know to adjust my next meal prep. It’s an ongoing learning process, and Cronometer provides the data to make informed decisions. Don't be afraid to experiment with different serving sizes and adjust your recipes until they fit your nutritional needs perfectly. Consistent tracking, even if not 100% perfect every single day, builds awareness and helps you make sustainable progress toward your health and fitness goals. It truly helps you feel more in control of your nutrition journey!
