Feeding a family of 5

🍱 Homecooked Meals On-the-Go for a Family of 5! ❤️🤍

Today I’ll be out for about 8–12 hours, so instead of buying food outside, I decided to bring along homemade meals for the whole family.. all packed, warm, and ready to go! 🥰 I also shared the best thermostat heater bag you can buy from Shopee at only less than $10 bucks so u can use it if u're worried ur food will be cold throughout the day.. :)

It took me just about 1–2 hours to prepare everything — super quick and simple. Once done, I packed them in a heater bag so they’ll stay warm while we’re out.

Here’s what’s on our menu today 👇

🍯 Breakfast – Honey French Toast & Tom Yum Maggi Goreng

Just bread, salt, sugar, milk, butter, and honey — pan-fried golden brown on a non-stick pan.

For the Maggi Goreng Tom Yum, I used boiled noodles, a few sausages (budget-friendly, though real meat is better!), eggs, and tom yum paste. Fry everything together — done!

🍛 Lunch – My favourite Basil Beef with Rice & Egg (Pad Kra Pao 🇹🇭)

Minced beef, oyster sauce, basil leaves, bird’s eye chilli, sliced shallot, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and salt — simple yet so flavourful!

We always have fruits like banana & apples ready in our car so when we need we just eat it!🍌

🥩 Dinner Treat – Ribeye Steak with Mushroom Garlic Sauce & Mashed Potatoes

I marinated the steak overnight with kosher salt and herbed butter — just thaw before grilling.

Mashed potatoes made with heavy cream, butter, a dash of pepper, and chopped parsley (Yukon Golds are the best! 🥔).

Green beans roasted with leftover marinade for that perfect side.

💰 All this under $30!

To put it in perspective, McDonald’s for a family of 5 easily costs about $33 — so yes, cooking from home really makes a difference (and it tastes way better too 😉).

Sometimes, love is in the little things — like feeding your family with food made from the heart. ❤️ Til then! Assalamualaikum 🤍🕊️

I find that buying versatile ingredients like eggs, basic veggies, and affordable proteins helps keep costs low while offering variety across meals. One tip that’s worked well for me is using a food heater bag purchased from Shopee for under $10 to keep meals warm throughout the day. This small investment ensures homecooked food stays fresh and warm whether you’re out for work or family trips. For families looking to switch up their meals without spending extra time, dishes like Pad Kra Pao (Thai basil beef) and tom yum Maggi goreng noodles are flavorful yet quick to prepare, often ready in under an hour. Adding fruits like bananas and apples to your family’s routine is a simple, healthy snack option that travels well. When it comes to dinner, treating the family doesn’t have to break the bank. Marinating ribeye steak overnight and pairing it with homemade mashed potatoes and roasted green beans provides an elegant, satisfying meal — all within budget. Overall, cooking from home not only saves money compared to eating out but also lets you control ingredients and portions, ensuring healthier meals for your loved ones. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to show care through food made from the heart. With a bit of planning, you can create diverse, delicious, and budget-friendly menus for your family while spending less than $30 a day. It’s all about balancing favorite flavors with affordable staples and smart cooking hacks like the thermal food bag to keep meals just right through the day.
