Budget 💵Meal Series: Week 7 Grocery Shop+Haul✨
Spent more $💵this week due to my circumstances but that does not mean you have too! 🫶🏽 Yall already know what to do since we are on week 7!!! Cut corners, make it from scratch, prep ahead.. and stretch it 🤣👏🏽🫶🏽
‼️ I most likely will not be cooking after my surgery for at least the rest of the week.. I hope 🙏🏽 Anywho.. I drove on to Trader Joe’s this week & I spent a whole bag 🤣 Not really but it felt like it.. 👏🏽This grocery store has all the little interesting things that I enjoyed but I wouldn’t necessarily say it was budget friendly. Girlies that shop at T.J.’s … how did I do? Haul, grocery list, & weekly meal layouts coming soon. Enjoy🫶🏽

Grocery shopping on a budget, especially when you're trying to snag all your favorite food items, feels like a constant puzzle, doesn't it? I know the feeling of walking into a store, armed with good intentions, only to have my jaw drop at the 'price $$' of some essentials. Lately, it feels like every trip to the grocery store, even to beloved spots like Trader Joe's, requires extra strategy to keep the wallet happy. One of my biggest game-changers has been meticulous meal planning. Before I even think about stepping foot in a place like Trader Joe's, I sit down and plan out every single meal for the week. This isn't just about saving money; it's about reducing food waste too! I check what I already have in my pantry and fridge, and then build my meals around those existing ingredients. This way, I only buy what I truly need, avoiding impulse buys that quickly add up. For example, if I have half a bag of spinach, I'll plan a stir-fry or a frittata to use it up before it wilts. Another crucial tip for making those food grocery items stretch is to embrace cooking from scratch as much as possible. It might seem daunting at first, but simple sauces, dressings, and even baking a loaf of bread can save a surprising amount compared to their pre-made counterparts. I’ve found some fantastic recipes online for basic staples that are super easy and budget-friendly. Plus, you control the ingredients, which is a big win! For instance, making your own hummus or salad dressing takes minutes and tastes so much better, while avoiding extra costs. When I shop, I always try to think about how I can make each ingredient work harder. Can these chicken breasts be used for two different meals? Can I roast extra vegetables tonight to use in a salad tomorrow? This 'stretch it' mentality is key. Batch cooking is my secret weapon. I might cook a big pot of rice or quinoa, roast a tray of veggies, or grill a larger batch of protein at the beginning of the week. Then, during busy weekdays, I can quickly assemble different meals without having to cook from scratch every single night. This strategy is especially helpful when you know you might have limited time or energy, like my situation with an upcoming surgery. Knowing I have pre-cooked components ready to go takes so much pressure off. And let's talk about those 'price $$' tags. While I love the unique finds at Trader Joe's, I've learned that it’s not always the most budget-friendly option for all food grocery items. Sometimes, I’ll hit up a larger supermarket for my staple items like milk, bread, and fruits, and then pop into Trader Joe's for their specialty items or frozen meals that I know I can't get elsewhere for a comparable price. It's all about balancing where you get your essentials. Don't be afraid to compare prices or even check out local farmer's markets for seasonal deals. Ultimately, budget grocery shopping is a journey, not a destination. Some weeks I nail it, and other weeks, like my recent Trader Joe's trip, I might spend a little more than planned. But every trip is a learning experience, and by focusing on smart planning, cooking from scratch, and making every food item count, we can all make our budgets work a little harder. It’s all about finding what works best for your household and your lifestyle!
