While the dress, ceremony, or first dance are often highlights, it’s the quieter, more personal exchanges that speak volumes years later.
For example, a simple hug with a parent, a glance shared with a grandparent, or a candid smile among family often holds unmatched emotional power. These moments represent the deep bonds and love that surround the couple, beyond the spectacle of the day. When you look back decades later, these intimate images remind you of the support and connection that upholds your marriage.
This understanding has changed the way I photograph weddings. I encourage couples to welcome these small, natural moments amidst the festivities. Don’t hesitate to take the photo when you see a fleeting yet meaningful interaction—it might seem subtle at the time, but it becomes priceless.
In addition, including extended family and close friends in your portraits helps preserve the wider story of your union, offering comfort and joy when reminiscing. It’s these genuine, heartfelt expressions captured quietly that grow in value and warmth as the years pass.
So if you want your wedding album to truly reflect your day’s significance, embrace these softer moments. They are the ones that will mean everything when you look back, long after the excitement fades. Trust your photographer to seek out and capture these gems—you'll be grateful you have them.
one of my absolute favorite pictures from our wedding day was my mom and I in a truly genuine moment of laughter! She had a first look with everything put together, except the veil. She put my veil (also her 50 year old veil) on and when she went to do it I started squatting down so she could reach because I was almost 1 foot taller than her in my heels and she teased me like she was gonna jab it into my skull for being ornery. Genuine moment between not only mom and daughter, but one of my best friends and I.
I got married November 1st and was blessed to have my great grandma there. She passed away 2 weeks ago. She told everyone when she was getting her hair done the day of the wedding that she was so excited to be getting dressed up
