My experience with sleep apnea

How I found out

I never suspected sleep apnea. I just knew I was waking up exhausted every day, even after getting 8 hours of sleep. I’d also wake up gasping or with a super dry mouth, but I kept brushing it off. Eventually, my partner told me I was snoring loudly and sometimes pausing in my breathing while I slept. That pushed me to bring it up to my doctor.

What I did at the doctor

I was referred for a sleep study, and it confirmed I had mild sleep apnea. Honestly, it was validating to hear that there was a real reason for how tired and foggy I felt every day. My doctor recommended trying a CPAP machine first. I gave it a real shot, but it made my sleep worse. I couldn’t get comfortable, and I kept waking up even more than I usually did.

The solution

Right now, I’m managing it in other ways that feel more doable. I switched to sleeping on my side instead of my back, which made a noticeable difference. I also raised the head of my bed a bit and keep the room cooler at night. Getting consistent with my sleep routine helped too. I stick to a regular bedtime and avoid eating too close to when I sleep. It’s not perfect, but I’m waking up with a little more energy and fewer headaches.

If CPAP doesn’t work for you, don’t give up!! There are other things you can try that might make a difference. You just have to find what works best for your body.

... Read moreSleep apnea is a common sleep disorder that affects millions of people, often without them realizing it. Symptoms can include excessive daytime fatigue, loud snoring, and gasping for air during sleep. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for alleviating symptoms and preventing complications like heart disease. For many, lifestyle changes can make a significant impact. Strategies such as maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding alcohol, and creating a calming bedtime routine can help manage sleep apnea effectively. Additionally, exploring alternative treatments beyond CPAP, such as positional therapy or oral appliances, may benefit those who struggle with traditional methods. Consulting with a healthcare professional about your symptoms and treatment options is always advisable. Remember, finding what works best for you may take time, but achieving restful sleep is worth the effort.

I’m noticing with my machine I keep waking up. I can’t get use to it. I’m trying to push myself to use it because I know this condition is serious.

Do you experience this on your period?
We all know what odor I’m talking about 😭🐠 … luckily there are things we can do!! First is staying as clean as possible! Shower morning and night with a fragrance free, gentle soap. I find using a bidet also helps during the day!! I don’t like wipes because even the most gentle wipes make my ski
