All my premeds follow :)

... Read moreHey future doctors! Navigating the premed path can feel like a marathon, but I'm here to share my personal journey and lessons learned to help make yours a little smoother. When I started my journey to medical school, I felt overwhelmed by all the requirements, but breaking it down made it manageable. One of the first things to tackle is required courses and maintaining a strong GPA. For me, that meant excelling in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biochemistry. These foundational sciences are crucial. I always focused on understanding the concepts rather than just memorizing, which really paid off in the long run. Don't be afraid to utilize your professors' office hours – their insights are invaluable! Then there's the big one: the MCAT. This beast of an exam requires serious dedication. I started my MCAT prep several months in advance, using a combination of self-study and resources like Blueprint Prep. Their practice questions and MCAT Review Sheets were lifesavers for consolidating information. Taking full-length practice tests under timed conditions was essential for building stamina and identifying weak areas. Remember, consistency is key! Beyond academics, gaining relevant activities is vital. Clinical experience, research, and volunteering all paint a comprehensive picture of your commitment. I volunteered at a local clinic, shadowed various physicians, and got involved in some basic science research. These experiences not only looked good on my application but also solidified my passion for medicine and showed me what a career in healthcare truly entails. Crafting your AMCAS application and securing strong Letters of Recommendation (LOR) are also critical steps. For LORs, I made sure to build genuine relationships with professors and supervisors who knew me well and could speak to my strengths. When asking for an LOR, provide them with your CV, personal statement, and details about the specific programs you're applying to – make it easy for them to write a compelling letter! And speaking of resources, there are so many free resources out there that can help. I found my university's pre-health advising office incredibly helpful, and websites like the one mentioned in my OCR (advising.ufl.edu/docs/PreHealthRequirements.pdf) can provide great general guidance on pre-health requirements. Don't hesitate to seek out Test Prep & Tutoring options if you feel you need extra support in certain areas. The journey to becoming a doctor is challenging, but it's also incredibly rewarding. Keep pushing forward, stay organized, and don't forget to take care of yourself. We're in this together, and I'm excited to share more of my journey and insights with you all!
