No more greasy hair!!✨

Coming from a girl who ALWAYS had greasy hair no matter what, I finally perfected my hair routine to make it not get greasy between my hair wash days! The number one thing I changed significantly in my routine was washing it less often. Which I know sounds odd because you think you would wash your hair MORE often if it gets greasy, but nope! Washing every day can strip your scalp, causing it to produce more oil to compensate.

💖Here’s my routine for controlling oily hair:

- Double shampoo

- Use cold water when rinsing hair

- Dry with microfiber towel

- Sleep on a clean satin pillowcase

Do you struggle with oily hair?

... Read moreOkay, let's be real – anyone who struggles with oily hair knows the daily battle! It feels like you wash it, and within hours, it's back to looking greasy. While my core routine has been a game-changer for me, I've also picked up a few extra tips and tricks along the way that can really boost your efforts and keep that oil at bay. First, let's talk more about why washing less often actually works. It sounds counterintuitive, right? But here’s the deal: your scalp, just like your skin, has natural oils (sebum) that it produces. When you wash your hair every single day, especially with harsh shampoos, you strip away these natural oils. Your scalp then thinks it's too dry and goes into overdrive, producing even more oil to compensate. It's a vicious cycle! By gradually extending your wash days, you're essentially training your scalp to regulate its oil production better. It takes time, maybe a week or two of feeling a little greasy, but stick with it – your hair will thank you! Now, what about those in-between days when you really need a refresh? This is where dry shampoo or other oil-absorbing powders come in super handy, which I know many of you are curious about! I've experimented with a few different brands, and the key is to apply it before your hair gets super greasy. Don't wait until it's already a slick mess. Spray it at your roots, let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the oil, and then massage it in or brush it through. Some people even apply it before bed so it can work its magic overnight. It's not a replacement for washing, but it's a fantastic temporary fix to extend your style by another day or two. Look for formulas that don't leave a white cast and offer some volume. Beyond the wash routine, product choice makes a huge difference. I learned to steer clear of heavy, creamy conditioners, especially near my roots. I now opt for lightweight, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners that are designed for oily hair or scalp balance. Applying conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends, never directly to the scalp, has been another small but mighty change for me. And speaking of small changes, let's revisit that 'rinse hair with cold water' tip. While it might feel bracing, cold water helps to seal the hair cuticles, which can make your hair appear shinier and potentially reduce oil absorption. It also feels super refreshing! Similarly, using a 'microfiber towel' helps to dry your hair more gently and quickly, reducing frizz and the need for heat styling, which can sometimes stimulate oil production. Finally, don't underestimate the impact of what your hair touches! My 'sleep on a clean satin pillowcase' hack isn't just for preventing frizz. Cotton pillowcases can soak up more of your hair's natural oils and product, and they can harbor more dirt and oils over time. A satin pillowcase is smoother, reduces friction, and can keep your hair cleaner for longer, making a real difference in how fresh your hair looks in the morning. Plus, remember to clean your hairbrushes regularly – they can accumulate oil and product buildup, which you then transfer back to your clean hair! Finding what works for your oily hair is definitely a journey, but by combining a refined wash routine with smart product choices and a few genius hacks, you can conquer the grease! Keep experimenting, and don't give up!
