As a dental hygienist, many patients visit me, and they are afraid of The Dentist. One thing that I find really helpful for dealing with anxiety and fear of The Dentist, that I wanted to share, is telling the people at the office what’s going on.
Some people are afraid because they’ve had a bad experience or they’re afraid of the unknown. Letting The Dentist, the dental hygienist, and the entire team know exactly what happened to you in your past can help them provide better care for you now.
There are different things that we do in a dental office to help with Dental fear and Dental anxiety.
Me personally when I sit in the dental chair, I get anxiety and I think it’s from knowing every single bit of the procedure of what’s happening and my brain wondering. I tell the people that are working on me exactly how I feel and that makes me feel a little bit better.
A few things that also helps when you visiting the dentist is putting on headphones to drown out the noise, bringing a your close friend with you, or a loved one, sometimes a weighted blanket can also help.
But being vulnerable and honest about anything that concerns you or bothers, you is really the key to a good appointment.
