Have you quit a bad habit?

I have a really bad habit on putting things off till the last minute. Just doing a simple task is like a struggle for me. I don’t understand why I won’t do it right then and there. Breaking these habits of procrastinating and staying consistent seems like two of the hardest things for me. Plus having ADHD doesn’t help much either. This is just something that I need to work on more.

Does anyone else struggle with this?

Do you have any habits you want to break?

Or

Even any advice?

... Read moreProcrastination is a common challenge that many people face, but it can be especially difficult for those with ADHD, where executive function and focus are often impaired. Understanding why procrastination occurs is the first step toward overcoming it. It often comes from a mix of fear, perfectionism, or simply feeling overwhelmed by tasks. One useful strategy to break the cycle is to implement small, manageable goals that can be completed quickly. This reduces resistance to getting started and builds momentum. For example, breaking a task into five-minute increments can make it feel less daunting. Another key approach is to develop consistent routines and use external cues, such as reminders or timers, to support attention and task management. Using planners or apps designed for ADHD-friendly productivity can improve organization and reduce forgotten tasks. Mindfulness and self-compassion are also important components. It’s essential to recognize that breaking habits takes time and that lapses are normal. Encouraging positive self-talk and celebrating small wins builds motivation. Social support can play a crucial role. Joining communities or forums, such as #AskLemon8 or #adhdmotivation, allows individuals to share struggles and advice, creating encouragement and practical tips from others who understand. Finally, consulting with healthcare professionals or coaches specializing in ADHD can provide personalized techniques and accountability. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown to be effective in addressing procrastination and executive dysfunction. By combining these methods—breaking tasks into simple steps, creating supportive routines, being mindful, and seeking connection and expert help—people struggling with procrastination and ADHD can make meaningful progress toward breaking their bad habits and improving consistency.
