Yesterday was so rough… I worked until 8pm, was starving and exhausted, mood on the floor. I thought all the good Chinese restaurants were already closed. Then I randomly saw this place on XiaoHongShu. I didn’t expect much, but still drove 30 minutes to try it — and OMG it HEALED me. Truly delicious.
🐸 Frog Dry Pot
Ever since YPHY closed, this dish basically disappeared from LA. Good news — this place has it again! It’s not exactly the same (more soup here), but still incredibly flavorful. The portion is huge. I took half home, reheated it the next day, and it still looked like a full dish. Amazing.
🐷 Stir-fried Liver
Compared to RH’s version, the texture here is thinner and not as sticky. The flavor isn’t as intense as RH, but still super delicious. It’s extremely fragrant and perfect with rice — honestly good enough to become the dish that puts this place on the LA Sichuan map.
🐟 Grilled Fish in Spicy Broth
The amount of veggies that come with this fish is wild. They include so many good ones — enoki, lotus root, wood ear, you name it. The broth is poured right over the whole fish. I LOVE all the vegetables soaked in that spicy broth. The mala flavor is amazing: super fragrant, super satisfying. The fish is plump and tender, especially the edges where it soaks up the soup — SO good!!
... Read moreIf you’re a fan of authentic Sichuan food and find yourself in the Los Angeles area, this Arcadia spot on 643 W Duarte Rd is definitely worth a visit. Sichuan cuisine is renowned for its bold, spicy flavors and use of ingredients like chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns that create the distinctive mala (numbing spicy) sensation that food lovers adore.
One standout dish to try is the Frog Dry Pot, a rare offering in LA since many places have stopped serving it. While this version includes more broth than traditional dry pots, it still maintains that deep, spicy, and savory profile. It’s a dish that’s best enjoyed with a group due to its generous portion size and mix of fresh ingredients.
The Stir-fried Liver is another gem on the menu. Unlike other versions that might be heavier or overly sticky in texture, this dish offers a lighter, more fragrant option that pairs exceptionally well with steamed rice. It’s a perfect introduction to Sichuan offal dishes, which can be an acquired taste but are beloved by many for their robust flavor.
For those who prefer fish, the Grilled Fish in Spicy Broth is a delightful choice. Not only does the dish feature a whole tender fish, but it also comes loaded with a variety of vegetables like enoki mushrooms, lotus root, and wood ear fungus. These vegetables absorb the spicy broth, adding texture and flavor complexity. This dish exemplifies the balance of heat, aroma, and umami that defines great Sichuan cuisine.
Visiting this restaurant can be an uplifting experience, especially after a long day, as many reviewers have found. The combination of comforting spicy food and hearty portions makes it a reliable spot for satisfying a craving for genuine Chinese flavors. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Arcadia, this place helps keep the rich traditions of Sichuan cooking alive in the LA food scene.
