It's incredibly versatile and surprisingly easy to make, which is why it’s become my go-to recipe whenever I need a crowd-pleasing side dish or just a delicious snack. My basic recipe, which I shared above, is just the starting point for endless culinary adventures! Let's talk about those delicious toppings. While a simple sprinkle of flaky sea salt and fresh rosemary is a classic for a reason – it truly highlights the bread's incredible texture and flavor – the possibilities are truly endless. For those of you searching for 'traditional focaccia toppings,' rosemary and sea salt are a must-try. But if you're looking to elevate your focaccia, let me share some of my favorite combinations that always get rave reviews. One of my absolute favorites, especially when I'm aiming for that 'sun-dried tomato and olive bread' vibe, is a generous scattering of chopped sun-dried tomatoes (oil-packed ones are best for extra flavor!) and Kalamata olives. The sweet tang of the tomatoes paired with the briny olives creates an explosion of Mediterranean flavors. Just make sure to press them gently into the dough before baking so they don't roll off. Another fantastic option, perfect if you're craving 'tomato cheese focaccia,' is to dot the surface with halved cherry tomatoes and sprinkle with some crumbled feta or mozzarella before baking. The tomatoes burst in the oven, releasing their juicy sweetness, and the cheese gets gloriously melty and golden. A little fresh basil added after baking takes it to another level! Beyond these, don't be afraid to experiment! Sliced red onions, caramelized onions, thinly sliced potatoes, garlic cloves, or even a pesto swirl can transform your focaccia. I often use a standard half-sheet pan, but if your pan is smaller, splitting the dough in half and baking two smaller loaves ensures proper thickness and even cooking. Just adjust baking times slightly if you do smaller ones. You'll be enjoying a truly Delicious Focaccia! Focaccia is truly a culinary chameleon.
