How I deal with my TMD

I’ve had jaw pain for over a year now and I am finally taking the time to heal, lessen my pain and correct my jaw( it’s pulling to the right). I have been diagnosed with TMD and go to physical therapy twice a week for 45 min appointments. We work on perfecting my exercise and strength training and dry needling etc. I do 10 different exercises twice a day and work on my posture. My pain has decreased significantly! #TMD #jawlineexercise #physicaltherapy #improveyourlife #stillpracticing

... Read moreTemporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) can significantly impact daily life, causing pain and discomfort in the jaw and surrounding areas. Symptoms of TMD include headaches, ear pain, and clicking sounds in the jaw joint, leading many to seek medical help. Physical therapy has been proven beneficial for TMD patients. It involves targeted exercises and treatments such as dry needling, which can relieve muscle tension in the jaw. Patients often perform specific exercises multiple times a day to strengthen jaw muscles and improve mobility. One popular method involves placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth while slowly opening and closing your mouth. This exercise helps in retraining the jaw's movement and alleviating tension. Additionally, postural improvements play a crucial role in managing TMD symptoms, as improper alignment can exacerbate jaw pain. Practicing good posture during daily activities, such as sitting and working at a computer, can reduce the stress placed on the jaw joints. It's also important to be mindful of clenching and grinding teeth, which can increase TMD-related pain. Stress management techniques, including relaxation exercises and mindfulness practices, can be beneficial. Many individuals find relief through yoga or meditation, which help both physical and emotional well-being. If you suspect you have TMD, it’s essential to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan. With the right approach, many people successfully manage their TMD symptoms, leading to a more comfortable life.
