I Was Showing Love. They Were Keeping Score 💔
I wasn’t trying to compete. I wasn’t trying to outdo anybody.
I was genuinely happy for the people around me.
When they won, I celebrated like it was my own win.
When they struggled, I showed up with love and support.
But some people aren’t wired like that.
They can’t just accept love without turning it into a competition.
Instead of feeling the love, they started keeping score.
Who had more. Who was doing better. Who was shining brighter.
And the crazy part?
I wasn’t even thinking like that.
I wasn’t trying to “win” anything.
I just wanted us all to grow together.
But life has a way of revealing things.
People who love you don’t secretly envy you.
People who are for you don’t secretly resent your wins.
Now I move differently.
I still love big, but I pay attention to who claps when it’s my turn.
No more blind loyalty to people who saw me as competition.
Love is supposed to feel safe, not strategic.

In today's social landscape, it's essential to recognize the dynamics of competition within friendships. Many people struggle with jealousy disguised as support, often leading to unhealthy comparisons. When celebrating friends' successes, it's important to ensure that encouragement is rooted in genuine happiness rather than rivalry. The phenomenon of keeping score in relationships can create emotional distance, fostering resentment instead of camaraderie. Instead of feeling threatened by others' achievements, we can choose to view them as motivation for our growth. The journey of self-awareness helps to surface true friendships based on mutual respect and support. Learning to identify those who genuinely celebrate our wins can protect our mental well-being and foster healthier relationships. Additionally, prioritizing our energy and space means recognizing who deserves a front-row seat in our lives. Friendships should be founded on trust, acceptance, and genuine concern for one another's happiness. Understanding this will shield us from negative energies and foster a deeper connection with those who share our enthusiasm for growth and support. Remember, when we lead with love, we create an environment where everyone can thrive without competition, emphasizing self-love and authentic connections.
