This dim sum spot at Orchard surprised me
Lowkey found a solid spot for handmade dim sum and proper Chinese dishes at Orchard Road 👀
Kai Duck has been around for a while, but I finally made time to sit down and try more of their menu and honestly… it was a good decision.
If you’re someone who likes handmade dim sum, comforting claypot dishes, and Peking duck done right, this is worth bookmarking.
What we ordered and enjoyed:
🦀 Wok-fried Claypot Crab Tang Hoon with Luffa 节瓜粉丝蚧煲
Crab was fresh, tang hoon soaked up all the sauce, and the luffa kept everything light. Very comforting, especially eaten straight from the claypot.
🦆 Sliced Peking Duck with Crackers 玉米酱脆饼伴片皮鸭
This one surprised me. Instead of wraps, they serve the duck with crispy corn crackers. Light, crunchy, and oddly addictive.
🥟 Pan Fried Siew Mai with Teriyaki Sauce 日式烧汁煎烧卖
Pan-fried so you get that crispy base, juicy inside, and a slightly smoky finish. Extra nice with chilli.
🍠 Deep Fried Yam and Pumpkin 金瓜煎芋丝
Crispy on the outside, naturally sweet inside. Simple but very satisfying.
🧅 Baked Pastry with Chinese Ham & Scallion 铁板京葱黄桥烧饼
Flaky pastry with savoury Jin Hua ham and scallions. If you like savoury bakes, don’t skip this.
🍹 Snow Pear with Hawthorn Juice 山楂雪梨汁
Light, tangy, and refreshing. Nice balance with richer dishes.
You can tell there’s a lot of experience behind the food, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or intimidating. The service was warm, and the space is comfortable for family meals or casual catch-ups.
If you’re usually around Orchard and craving proper dim sum or a hearty Chinese meal, this is a satisfying choice.
If you’re exploring more dining options at Orchard Road for authentic dim sum, I highly recommend checking out Kai Duck’s weekday lunch specials—they often have great discounts like 30% off, making it a good time to experience their specialties without breaking the bank. Beyond the popular Peking duck with crispy corn crackers, which offers a refreshing twist to the traditional wrap, their pan-fried siew mai with teriyaki sauce stands out. It’s perfectly crispy on the bottom with a juicy filling and a subtle smoky flavor—pair it with chili for an extra kick. Another must-try is their deep-fried yam and pumpkin dish, which is naturally sweet inside and crunchy outside—simple yet immensely satisfying if you enjoy textures in your meals. Kai Duck’s location inside Ngee Ann City makes it easily accessible if you’re spending the day shopping or exploring Orchard. The warm service complements the comfortable dining space, which suits both casual eating and family meals. Drinks like the snow pear with hawthorn juice provide a light and slightly tangy balance to the richer dishes, making the meal feel well-rounded. If you plan to visit during Chinese New Year or other festive seasons, keep an eye on their special menus and promos—many diners rave about their limited-time offerings. From my experience, Kai Duck manages to offer high-quality handmade dim sum and comforting Chinese food that doesn’t feel intimidating or overly formal. It’s a great choice if you’re craving genuine flavors with some creative touches, right in the heart of Orchard.
