Still Not Feeling Like Myself 1 Year After Birth—H

1 year postpartum and I still don’t recognize myself in the mirror. But instead of hiding it, I’m healing through it—and I’m sharing everything that’s helped me show up again.

No one talks about the year after the newborn phase.

How time slips through your fingers. How your body feels unfamiliar.

How your brain feels foggy, and your heart stretched between joy and guilt.

I’m 1 year postpartum—and I still don’t feel like the old me.

But I’m not trying to get her back.

I’m becoming someone new. Stronger. Softer. More intentional.

Here’s what’s helped me feel a little more me again:

• Hired a coach and started going to the gym (no pressure, just presence)

• Walking 8–10K steps most days (with my son in tow!)

• Reading self-help books to rebuild my mindset

• Going to therapy (the emotional unloading I didn’t know I needed)

• Supporting my nervous system with Ashwagandha, ZMA, L-Tyrosine, and Theanine

This isn’t a glow-up. It’s a rebuild.

If you’re in it too—know this:

You’re not broken. You’re not behind.

You’re healing while mothering—and that’s the bravest thing of all.

... Read moreThe postpartum journey can often feel isolating, particularly after the initial newborn phase is over. Many new mothers report feelings of disconnect with their bodies and emotional upheaval as they navigate their evolving identities. In this time, practices such as consistent physical activity, like walking 8,000-10,000 steps daily, can be immensely beneficial. Engaging a coach focuses on strength rather than superficial aesthetics, fostering a deeper relationship with one's physical capabilities. Reading self-help books not only rebuilds a positive mindset but also empowers mothers to understand their emotional complexities. Therapy offers essential support, serving as a safe space for emotional unloading, crucial for managing the feelings of guilt and joy that coexist post-birth. Recommendations such as Ashwagandha and other supplements can help stabilize emotional well-being, aiding in mental clarity and energy. Remember, healing postpartum is not about going back but rather about evolving into a new, empowered version of yourself while navigating the beautiful yet challenging journey of motherhood. If you're feeling this way, you're not alone. Embrace the journey, and know that healing while mothering is a testament to your strength.

Giving birth is one thing you cannot restart
My partner and I decided to have a baby after 3 all the years been together and we thought we were ready. We budgeted, tracked spending, thought we had it “good enough.” Fast forward—our 3-month-old needs care, and childcare costs? Basically as much as our rent. We’d planned a nanny-share with fri
