Character progress ✨🌸

I feel this little toad is almost done 🥹

I just started digitally drawing 2 months ago.

Making characters to represent different parts of myself and this little one is child like joy and confidence 💕 I had to wear a dunce hat a lot as a kindergartner because I would stand up for the rest of the kids. The kindergarten teacher was most likely looking back very mentally unstable and down right abuse… very long and funny story. Anyways I wanted to make a positive spin on it like kid me would do. That one teacher was furious with me doing that specifically lol. I wanted to make it more like some traditional Lebanese 🇱🇧 hats … kinda like a princess vibe 🥰 I enjoy flipping insults into empowerment

My partner is an illustrator/painter and was laughing about how different or workflow and process is… apparently it’s very designer brain of me to create a color palette first. Also I only pick from that palette instead of eye dropping a color from what I’m working on 😅 I need to know I have the exact color or I get anxiety because there’s texture hue changes… 😳

... Read moreYou know, when I first started thinking about character design, especially digitally, I quickly realized it wasn't just about drawing something cool – it’s about infusing a piece of you into it. For me, my little toad character isn't just a frog with a hat; that hat is a direct shout-out to a significant childhood memory, a 'dunce hat' that I've consciously transformed into a symbol of resilience, confidence, and even a touch of elegant Lebanese princess flair! It’s truly amazing how those small, deeply personal story elements can give a character so much depth and meaning. Instead of merely picking colors or shapes, I find myself thinking about what specific feelings or past experiences I want to convey. How does my character's pose, its subtle expression, or even a tiny accessory tell a part of my unique story? This process isn't just drawing; it’s a profound journey of self-discovery and empowerment through art. Every decision, from the tilt of the head to the sparkle in the eye, is a narrative choice that contributes to the character's soul and overall 'character progress'. Speaking of personal touches, my partner, who's an experienced illustrator and painter, often affectionately jokes about my 'designer brain' approach. While many artists might instinctively eye-drop colors from their canvas or let the piece evolve organically, I need my entire color palette meticulously set from the very beginning. It might seem like a rigid constraint to some, but for me, it brings an incredible sense of calm, control, and focus. It’s my unique way of approaching digital art, a distinctly 'different art style' in terms of workflow and creative process. I’ve come to understand that there’s absolutely no single 'right' or 'wrong' way to create art. Whether you’re meticulously planning every single shade and line, or letting your strokes and intuition guide you freely, finding a process that feels authentic and truly effective for you is the absolute key. For those of us who might be a bit 'neurospicy' like myself, this structured approach can ironically unlock immense waves of creativity, providing a stable and predictable foundation upon which to build the wildest and most imaginative ideas. Even if I’m not planning a full-blown graphic novel or an epic 'journey of the spark' like in some grand narratives or comic topic ideas, every single character I design feels like it has its own inherent little story or journey. This toad, for instance, is all about character progress – not just in terms of technical skill, but how I’m growing as an artist and, more importantly, as a person. I often find myself pondering what subtle challenges they might face, what truly makes them joyful, and how their visual elements can subtly hint at these deeper, internal narratives. It’s almost like building a mini-universe within each individual illustration. For anyone out there thinking about how to make their art more engaging, or exploring 'comic topic ideas', I highly recommend considering the unspoken story behind your character. What’s their origin? What’s their core emotion? What tiny detail could hint at a larger world? This approach adds profound layers that truly draw viewers in, making them connect with your art on an emotional and intellectual level. If you’re just starting out in drawing, especially in the digital realm, as I did only two months ago, please don't be afraid to experiment with these ideas. Don't get caught up worrying about achieving instant perfection. Instead, focus intently on what genuinely inspires you, what personal stories you passionately want to tell. Try starting with a powerful feeling, a vivid memory, or even a single evocative word, and then see how it organically translates into a character. It’s far less about achieving technical mastery at first, and much more about letting your unique voice and perspective shine through. Whether you ultimately choose to use a rigid, pre-defined color palette or a free-flowing, intuitive approach, the most important thing is to truly enjoy the creative process and allow your own inner 'spark' to be your guide. Every single stroke you make, every decision you take, is a vital step in your own artistic 'character progress,' and believe me, it’s an incredibly rewarding and transformative experience.
