your sign to go do your snatches 🧚 *note to self* 😂
I’ve been more focused on gymnastics and strict strength so barbell snatches have taken a back seat!! (I’ve improved my dumbbell snatch tho so a win is a win😂) but we’re going to go back to having a snatch day v sooon :)

As someone who has journeyed through various aspects of Olympic weightlifting and gymnastics, I can truly relate to the challenge of balancing different training focuses. For a while, I scaled back on barbell snatches, focusing more on gymnastics and strict strength. During that time, I did see some progress in my dumbbell snatches which felt like a small victory, but it became clear that to improve my overall snatch technique, nothing replaces consistent practice with the barbell itself. I once read the phrase, "You won't get better at snatches by not doing snatches," and it really stuck with me. It’s a straightforward reminder that skill-based lifts require repetition and focused time. Reinstituting dedicated snatch days made a huge difference. Not only did my technique sharpen, but my confidence under the bar increased significantly. For those unfamiliar, the snatch is a highly technical lift demanding speed, mobility, and precise timing. Compared to the clean & jerk, it’s often considered more challenging because it requires catching the barbell overhead in one fluid motion. That’s why it’s essential to break down the movement into drills, mobility work, and strength elements. Incorporating snatch-specific accessories like overhead squats, snatch pulls, and hip mobility exercises can complement your training. If you’ve been avoiding snatches, consider starting with lighter weights and prioritize form over load. It's a game-changer to approach this lift with patience and persistence. Whether you're a CrossFit enthusiast or purely into Olympic lifting, snatches are a fundamental movement that can elevate your overall athleticism. Plus, the boost in coordination and power often translates to better performance in other lifts and gym goals. So, embrace those snatch days—they are worth the effort and consistent attention!
