What I stopped doing to be a better man.

3/29 Edited to

... Read moreOver the years, I've realized that self-improvement isn't just about adding new habits but also about letting go of those that hold you back. One big change for me was stopping the habit of waiting until I felt 100% ready to tackle difficult issues. For example, I used to delay hard conversations or starting therapy because I thought I needed to 'feel ready.' What I learned is that action breeds confidence; often the other 40% readiness shows up after you begin, not before. In addition, I used to rigorously consume the news every morning, which kept me anxious and distracted. But reducing my exposure to negative headlines helped me focus better on what really matters — being present for my family and making thoughtful decisions instead of being driven by fear or stress. Another revelation was about mental clutter. Carrying every task, worry, or idea in my head made me overwhelmed and less productive. I started dumping everything into a trusted system — like a digital planner or notes app — that automatically organizes and reminds me of essentials. This made my mental space clearer and allowed me to be more creative and focused. Lastly, I learned not to take life so seriously. Younger me overthought every mistake, which sapped joy from daily experiences. Now, I try to laugh at failures, get back up quickly, and enjoy the ride. Embracing the fact that we’re all just stardust helped me put things into perspective, reducing stress and increasing fulfillment. Changing these four habits didn't happen overnight, but step by step, they made me a better man, husband, and father. If you're looking to grow, try giving yourself permission to stop these common but often harmful behaviors. It’s liberating and truly life-changing.
