TONING IS A MYTH⬇️

“Toning “ is a term coined by marketers to appeal to primarily women, promoting the idea that you can create small, defined muscles with exercise✨ There is no such thing as “fat muscle” or “bulky muscle”. Ultimately, it all comes down to how you implement diet into your fitness routine🏋🏼‍♀️

When people talk about muscle toning, it’s normally because they want to build muscle and lose fat⚖️ If you’re eating in a calorie surplus, you’re most likely going to have a higher fat mass than muscle mass, and look less “lean” per se. On the other hand, if you’re looking to build muscle/lose fat simultaneously, you can follow the process of “body recomposition” which requires you to be in a slight calorie deficit alongside your weight training routine.

To be fair, there are times when fitness coaches find it challenging to avoid using the term “toning” because although it may not be entirely accurate, the intention behind using this word is not always to mislead. Fitness coaches are aware of what “toning” typically implies—losing weight and gaining muscle—and they use it as a way to describe fat-burning exercises or body recomposition programs in simpler terms that can be easily understood by the general public.

Sooo is this upper body workout actually going to “tone” your arms? Well, it absolutely has the potential to🙌 Each of these exercises work the desired areas, challenging your upper body regions, breaking down muscle fibers, isolating those smaller muscles, and tapping into the fat stores. The biomechanics of this workout are suited to promote muscle growth/fat burn.
