Living With PTSD

I've thought a lot about what I want lemon 8 to be for me. And I think I want it to be kind of a personal diary that others can see and relate to. So here's the run down, I'll be focusing on these points:

Personal Reflections, Daily Experiences, Challenges and Triumphs, Educational Content, Self-Care and Wellness

Today: what it's like to live with PTSD(a small list of symptoms I experience):

1. Chronic Pain. A lot of people don't think of this as a PTSD trait, as PTSD is a mental illness, but it takes form in so many ways, including physically. The chronic pain stems from tension for me. I get migraines and muscle aches primarily

2. Flashbacks. This is probably the most well-known trait of PTSD. Flashbacks are generally triggered by various environmental stimulation.

3. Nightmares. I unfortunately, have had nightmare for years due to the traumatic event I suffered, sometimes these nightmares are directly relevant to the event, but a lot of times they're not!

4. Hypervigilance. This is another common trait of PTSD, always being anxious and aware of your environment. For me this manifests as being jumpy and constantly scanning the environment for threats.

5. Avoidance. I avoid places, triggers, personal relationships, and even certain activities! The downside to this is I don't have friends for the most part as I'm so avoidant of intimacy and environments.

I will talk more in depth about things as time goes on but I just wanted to introduce myself!

... Read morePost-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affects many individuals, and yet, it's often misunderstood. PTSD can manifest in various ways beyond mental symptoms, including chronic pain, which may arise from tension and stress. Recognizing that physical symptoms like migraines and muscle aches can be part of PTSD is essential for holistic understanding. Flashbacks are a hallmark of PTSD, leading individuals to relive traumatic experiences triggered by environmental cues. Alongside flashbacks, nightmares can haunt those with PTSD, impacting sleep and overall well-being. Hypervigilance, or the intense awareness of surroundings, can create a constant state of tension for sufferers, often leaving them feeling jumpy and on edge. Avoidance behaviors are common, where individuals may steer clear of places, events, or even relationships that remind them of past trauma. This can lead to social isolation, making it challenging to engage in friendships or support systems. This article not only shares personal experiences but also emphasizes the importance of self-care and wellness. Routine and thoughtful self-care practices can provide relief. Taking time for relaxation, seeking therapy, engaging in supportive communities, and practicing mindfulness can be invaluable tools in navigating the complexities of living with PTSD. By opening up about these experiences, individuals can find comfort in shared struggles and foster a supportive dialogue in the broader mental health community.

ADHD OR PTSD(trauma response)???
In a lot of podcasts, talk shows, tiktoks etc people seem to always link ADHD with a childhood trauma. Me being diagnosed with severe ADHD and no childhood trauma, it really caused me to wonder if I was blocking out something.🥲 I thought I had a great childhood. I feel my parents did their best.
