You know, when you create your own Iron Golem to protect your village, or maybe you've given one a poppy – that classic 'poppy test' – you start thinking, 'Surely my buddy Golem wouldn't hit me as hard as a wild one, right?' Well, let me share my experience and what I've learned after countless hours in my world, probably even more challenging than that time Wallibear almost got flattened! First off, let's clear something up: an Iron Golem's base damage output doesn't actually change whether it's 'friendly' to you or not. Their attack strength is pretty consistent. A Golem, whether it's one you crafted, one that naturally spawned and you've befriended, or even one that's hostile towards you (because you hit a villager, for example), will always deal the same amount of damage if it successfully lands a hit. Those powerful swings and throws? They pack the same punch every single time. It's truly 'not easy at all' to survive a direct attack! So, what does change when an Iron Golem is 'friendly' to you? It's all about their targeting behavior. A Golem you've created or one that considers you a protector (usually because you haven't attacked it or villagers) simply won't attack you unless you provoke it. This means you can walk past them, trade with villagers they're guarding, and generally coexist peacefully without worrying about their massive fists. They'll focus their attention on hostile mobs like zombies, skeletons, or creepers, keeping your base and villagers safe. Think of it as having a loyal bodyguard whose strength doesn't waver, but whose loyalty prevents them from harming you intentionally. I remember one time I was doing a 'poppy test' trying to see if I could really tell the difference in their hits. My friend, let's call him Wallibear, dared me to stand in front of a recently befriended Golem. Of course, I didn't hit it, but it was still a bit nerve-wracking! The Golem just stood there, looking stoic. But when a zombie shuffled by, BAM! That zombie was sent flying, proving its damage was still top-tier. The key takeaway here is that 'friendly' in this context means 'non-hostile towards the player,' not 'weaker.' If you accidentally hit your own Golem a few times, or if you anger one by attacking a villager, it will turn hostile, and when it does, it will hit you with its full, unreduced damage. And trust me, you do not want to be on the receiving end of that. I've 'lost' many a heart in those situations, thinking maybe I could take it on. Nope! That's when you realize you really 'lose right here' if you're not careful. So, if you're building a mob farm or trying to understand Golem mechanics, remember: their damage output is constant. Focus on managing their hostility. Create them to protect your base, feed them poppies to reset their aggression if you accidentally hit them, and always respect their power. They are your allies against the night, not weaker versions of their wild counterparts. Stay safe out there, crafters!
