Being a Single parent in a two parent household!

Sometimes the hardest kind of loneliness

is being a single parent in a two-parent household.

Doing bedtime alone.

Making decisions alone.

Carrying the mental load, the emotional load, the everything—alone.

It’s grieving the version of partnership you thought you had.

It’s realizing that having a significant other doesn’t always mean having support.

Lies don’t always scream.

Betrayal doesn’t always come from strangers.

Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s subtle.

Sometimes it’s the absence of effort, presence, honesty.

I’m learning that strength doesn’t always look loud.

Sometimes it looks like getting up anyway.

Choosing your children anyway.

Choosing yourself—even when it hurts.

If you’re here too… you’re not weak.

You’re not dramatic.

You’re not asking for too much.

You’re just asking for what should’ve been there all along.

... Read moreBeing a single parent in a household that appears to be two-parent is a unique and often misunderstood experience. From my own perspective and those shared by others, the loneliness can be profound—not because there is no one else physically present, but because the emotional and practical support feels absent. The mental load is overwhelming; tasks that are usually shared fall on you alone. For example, making parenting decisions, getting children to bed, and organizing daily routines can feel like carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. I've found that the grief of losing the partnership you expected is subtle but ongoing. It’s not marked by dramatic moments but instead by quiet betrayals—the absence of effort, honesty, and presence. It’s important to recognize that this form of loneliness isn’t a sign of weakness or drama; rather, it highlights a need for what should have been a shared responsibility. In support groups and online communities tagged with #reallife, #motherhoodunfiltered, and #singlemomenergy, many share similar experiences that bring comfort and validation. They remind us that strength doesn’t always roar; sometimes it’s in the quiet decision to keep going and to prioritize your children and yourself even when it hurts. If you’re navigating this path, know that your feelings are valid and you’re not alone. It can help to reach out or find supportive spaces where your challenges are understood. Sharing stories like this one helps reduce the isolation and encourages more honest conversations about the reality of single parenting within a two-parent framework.

You are not a sh*tty parent
You don’t react calmly to every situation? That doesn’t make you a sh*tty parent. You’d rather hide in the back of the closet than play dolls with your child (because you hate dolls)—nope, doesn’t mean you’re a sh*tty parent. The fact is, great parenting is not the same thing as perfect parenting.
