My Bridal Gown YES / NO Criteria😍💍

i’m not getting married YET but i recently had the opportunity to do a bridal shoot and it got me thinking: what does my personal checklist look like?

During the shoot i took notes on what i wanted or didn’t want in my ideal wedding dress so here are my YES and NOs!!

1. plain white over glitter or ruffles.

Personally I prefer a plainer look without funky colors or textures.

2. sleek silhouette over poofy skirts.

Big skirts like those ballgown types are just not my thing. At the very least, a fit and flare silhouette would be ideal!

3. higher necklines over low necklines

With small 🍒s, I prefer higher necklines that accentuate and elongate the body, and not focus on my bust so much. Deep V necks are also a no go from me.

4. easy to walk in over too long skirts.

Self explanatory, a long skirt or train that’s hard to walk in would make me so overstimulated and make getting around or interacting with people more difficult.

OK that’s my 4 yes and no’s hahaha. I think it’s pretty reasonable and who knows maybe i’ll find my dream dress that ticks every box!

... Read moreHaving recently done a bridal shoot, I found it incredibly helpful to outline what I want in a wedding dress versus what I want to avoid. From my experience, sticking to plain white gives a timeless and elegant appeal, avoiding glitter or ruffles which can feel overly busy or dated. Opting for a sleek silhouette rather than a poofy skirt makes moving around so much easier and ensures the dress complements your natural shape. One thing I hadn’t initially considered was the neckline. Choosing a higher neckline can enhance the body’s elongation and keep the focus tasteful, especially important for petite figures. Low necklines or plunging Vs might not feel comfortable or flattering in the same way for everyone. Moreover, comfort really is key—weddings involve a lot of standing, walking, dancing, and socializing. A skirt that is easy to walk in beats a long, heavy train I’d be worried about tripping over or feeling overwhelmed by. For brides-to-be reading this, I’d recommend trying silhouettes and necklines beyond the usual guesses—sometimes the most flattering gown is one you wouldn’t have expected. Also, think about how your dress plays with your intended wedding style and venue. For example, a sleek gown suits a modern city wedding, while a ballgown might be perfect for a more traditional, grand setting. Ultimately, your YES and NO list might look different but having one is a great way to narrow down options and avoid feeling overwhelmed. Trusting your personal style and prioritizing comfort will help you find the dress that truly feels like "yours."
