... Read moreHey everyone! If you've ever dreamed of bringing the delicious flavors of Louisiana right into your kitchen, making homemade boudin kolaches is an absolute must-try. I recently whipped up a batch, and let me tell you, the aroma alone was enough to transport me straight to the bayou! It's such a satisfying process, and the end result is a warm, fluffy, and utterly savory treat that's perfect for any time of day. Getting that perfect golden-brown crust on your kolaches is key, and it's surprisingly simple. I always start with a good quality store-bought or homemade sweet dough. While some people prefer making their dough from scratch, a good quality pre-made dough can save you a lot of time and still yield fantastic results. For the filling, the star of the show is, of course, the boudin. I like to use a link that's already cooked, then carefully remove the casing and crumble the boudin meat into a bowl. This ensures that wonderful savory filling is ready to be wrapped up in the soft dough. Now, for the fun part: assembly! I usually roll out my dough into a rectangle and then cut it into squares, about 4x4 inches. Place a generous spoonful of the boudin mixture in the center of each square. Then, pull two opposite corners of the dough over the filling and pinch them together tightly to seal. You can also bring all four corners to the center and pinch them, creating a little boudin-filled pocket. Make sure they’re sealed well to prevent any of that delicious savory filling from escaping during baking! Once they're all assembled, I like to let them do a final rise for about 20-30 minutes in a warm spot – this makes them extra fluffy. Before popping them into the oven, a quick egg wash gives them that beautiful shiny, golden-brown finish that makes them look as good as they taste. Bake them at around 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes, or until deeply golden. Every oven is different, so keep an eye on them! These homemade boudin kolaches are truly a taste sensation. The soft, slightly sweet dough perfectly complements the spicy, savory filling. They're amazing fresh out of the oven, but also reheat beautifully. I love to make a big batch, enjoy some for breakfast, and freeze the rest for quick snacks or future meals. Trust me, once you try making these, you'll want to add them to your regular baking rotation. It's a little slice of Louisiana comfort right at your fingertips!
