My first book on my DNF list

I’d never believed I could put a book on a DNF list. I’m one of those people that could start watching a crappy movie, and I’ll watch it until the end just because I feel like I already invested time in starting it and now I gotta see it through. So naturally I would feel that way about books too. I started this book, gave it a chance, and I just couldn’t continue with it. Sorry to all who enjoyed this, but I feel like this story is maybe for a younger reader. I could see someone enjoying this if they’re in the 16-24 age range.

... Read morePutting a book on a DNF list felt like breaking an unspoken rule for me. I’m usually someone who pushes through movies or books, even if they aren’t great, just because I feel the need to see it through. This experience has changed how I approach reading. It made me realize that it’s okay to stop reading something if it doesn’t fit your current interests or age perspective. From what I gathered, the book I couldn’t finish—possibly by Avina St Graves, judging from the OCR text with titles like Skinno, Sinner, Missed Me, Princess?—seems targeted at a younger audience. That’s an important detail: books often have specific readers in mind, and what doesn’t work for one may be perfect for another, especially in the 16 to 24 age bracket. Recognizing that helped me detach any guilt from not finishing it. A DNF list is a useful tool in my reading journey now. It helps me keep track of books that, for one reason or another, didn’t hold my attention or weren't quite my style. Having this list also encourages me to explore different genres and authors more confidently, without the pressure to finish everything I start. Sharing my DNF experience openly has connected me with others who feel the same way about reading—sometimes, it’s just not the right fit, and that’s perfectly fine. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, don’t be afraid to trust your instincts about stopping. Life’s too short for reading to feel like a chore, and there are so many amazing books out there waiting to be enjoyed by you.

Why I am putting this book on my DNF list
✨GUYS- my first ever DNF!!! ✨ But hear me out….I had a goal to read at least one book of each author I was planning on seeing for the Romantasy Con in Orlando in October. With so many books and so little time. I had to make the decision to move on from this series and get started with new authors.

The book "Master of One" by Dani Bennett, with overlay text expressing love for the book but disappointment that the sequel is permanently unfinished. The book rests on a wooden stand, framed by green plants.
Books I wish I DNF’d ❌
This was before I knew how to DNF a book and… I wish I had with these. My main reasons were either the book was way too unrealistic for a thriller/unbelievable, not age appropriate or just straight up boring 🥱 No hate if you liked these! They just were my cup of tea and that’s okay! ✨
