📈 ready to step it up ⬆️ ✅ and now read the photo shoot guide using a full frame camera now? (Nikon Z7 II) 📸⁉️ here you go👇🏾

🪩 Shooting scenario: low light with moving subjects (like a dark nightclub where people are dancing)

- 🏃🏾‍♀️ shoot in "shutter priority mode" while locking in a fast shutter speed of at least 1/320 in order to freeze the motion of the moving subject

- ☀️ turn on "auto ISO" if you are using "shutter priority" so that the camera automatically brightens the picture to adjust for the darkening effects of the fast shutter speed. If you are instead using "manual", you can use any shutter speed less than 12,800 since this full frame camera has such a wide granular range of ISO sensitivity that allows for a lot of fine micro adjustments (this allows you to play around with the ISO dial in order to get the perfect exposure). even though it's dark, you don't have to go past 12,800 because then that might blow out the picture.

- 🔦 use "AF-C" to continually focus on the moving/dancing subject. With this setting you can play around with/choose between the "Dynamic-area AF" mode, "Touch AF", or what we believe would be the most effective one which is the "Wide-area AF (L-people)" mode.

- 💻 turn the "Menu: a10" setting on in order to enable the function for low light auto focus

- 🌗 due to the contrast of the flash being so much brighter than the dark surroundings, some pictures might not come out looking so good. so use "matrix metering" mode to even out the distribution of light across the entire picture. also consider playing around with the different levels of "active D-lighting" settings to see if that improves any bad pictures

- ⚙️ also consider switching to "center-weighted" metering if the subjects are back lit as this may improve any pictures that are not coming out nice

- 🔆 adjust the "exposure compensation" level to brighten or darken the overall picture if it's still not exposed the way you like

-🕯️ if you're using flash, play around with the "flash compensation" setting if the picture isn't coming out exposed to the way you want

- 💡 shoot with the flash off camera by holding the flash to above the subjects' head, attaching the trigger onto the camera, and then setting the flash to "ODIN-RX" mode. ensure that the "Auto focus assist light" on the flash is disabled since the auto focus on the camera will do the trick

- ⚡️ set the flash to "manual" for more control. set the focal length to 17 mm for a wider spread of light, and set the flash power starting at 1/128 for a faster recycle time. if this flash power is not strong enough, then gradually increase it while balancing for its recycle time so that you don't miss a moment

If you’re shooting yourself in a low-light, moving scenario (think dancing solo in a dimly lit room!), you'll still want a fast shutter speed to avoid blur – that 1/320s is a great starting point. And yes, "shutter priority mode" or manual with "auto ISO" are your friends here. The biggest challenge with self-portraits is being both the subject and the photographer. Here are a few extra tips I’ve picked up for nailing self-portraits, especially with flash: 1. Setting Up Your Shot (Without Being Behind the Camera): This is where a tripod becomes your absolute best friend. Set up your camera (like a "Nikon Z7 II" if you have one, or any camera with good low-light performance) on a sturdy tripod. Frame your shot, then use the camera's self-timer or, even better, a wireless remote trigger. Many modern cameras, including the "Nikon Z7 II", have fantastic smartphone apps that let you see a live view and control settings remotely. This is a game-changer for self-portraits! 2.
