OCD or am I crazy?

I’m embarrassed of my OCD because it makes me overthink absolutely everything. The intrusive thoughts don’t just come and go they stick with me for a big part of my day, weighing me down and making it hard to just live in the moment. Sometimes I feel like I can’t escape my own mind.

I still get scared even doing something as simple as looking in the mirror when I go to the bathroom. It feels like something bad is going to happen, and I can’t shake that uneasy feeling. My thoughts spiral so quickly that it turns what should be a normal moment into something overwhelming.

At the end of the day, I just want to feel normal. I want to go through my day without being weighed down by these thoughts and fears. It’s not easy, but I’m holding onto the hope that one day I’ll find more peace within myself.

... Read moreLiving with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can be incredibly exhausting, especially when intrusive thoughts seem to take over every moment. Many people with OCD experience anxious episodes, such as fear triggered by looking in a mirror or while engaged in everyday activities like flying or driving. These fears are persistent, often convincing the person that something terrible might happen, even when logically they know they are safe. One common experience is anxiety that sits with you daily, making even normal moments overwhelming. It can feel isolating and confusing, especially when your thoughts spiral quickly and you can’t escape your mind. This exhaustion is a shared reality among many coping with OCD. It’s important to acknowledge that pushing through these fears is a gradual process. Facing anxiety 'little by little' helps build tolerance and reduces its power over time, even though each step can feel draining. This deliberate effort to confront fears and intrusive thoughts is a key part of moving towards feeling more stable and present. For those struggling with these symptoms, seeking professional support—from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to medication—can offer critical relief. Mindfulness techniques and grounding exercises often complement treatment, helping to anchor you in the present and lessen the intensity of intrusive thoughts. Remember, having OCD does not mean you are 'crazy.' It is a mental health condition that challenges your brain’s ability to regulate worry and fear. With patience, support, and self-compassion, many find ways to live beyond the weight of their intrusive thoughts, gradually reclaiming normalcy and inner calm in their lives.
