Are you grieving a parent who is still alive?

Do they say things like this?

1/20 Edited to

... Read moreGrieving a parent who is physically present but emotionally absent or difficult to connect with can be an incredibly isolating experience. Many people encounter responses that dismiss their pain, often involving gaslighting or spiritual bypassing—phrases like "You made it up," "That never happened," or "You have a demon." These reactions can compound the hurt and create confusion about the reality of one's experiences. From my own journey, I've found that recognizing these damaging patterns is the first step toward reclaiming your emotional truth. Gaslighting makes you doubt your memories and feelings, while spiritual bypassing often invalidates legitimate struggles by suggesting you’re not "spiritually advanced" enough or that you should simply "move on." Neither helps in addressing unresolved grief. What helped me was seeking out supportive communities and resources where my feelings were acknowledged without judgment. Therapy or support groups provide a safe space to unpack complex emotions and develop coping strategies. Journaling can also serve as a powerful tool to document experiences that others may try to dismiss. It's important to remember that grieving a living parent is a valid and profound form of grief deserving attention and care. By naming and understanding harmful responses like gaslighting and spiritual bypassing, you can better protect your mental health and work toward healing on your own terms.

Losing someone important to you due to their own choices can be one of the most difficult experiences any human could endure. The sheer part of letting go is the hardest. Why would you let go of someone that’s still there? Doesn’t that show YOU’VE given up? Or maybe you agree to the choice as well?

This is for the ones who know the heartbreak of losing someone who still breathes. Sometimes, the only closure is accepting you can’t make someone stay. You can wish them well from far away and still hold your own heart closer. 💕

Underneath anger… there’s always grief. And no one ever taught you how to tell the difference. You weren’t “too emotional.” You were grieving. And no one noticed. They said you had “anger issues.” But no one ever asked what your rage was protecting. No one ever saw the child in the fire.
