You cut out the parent but they still own you!

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is deciding whether to keep or cut off family before they’ve healed from the pain those relationships created.

When childhood wounds go unhealed, they don’t just stay in the past.

They become the beliefs that shape your present.

“I’m not enough.”

“I have to earn love.”

“My feelings don’t matter.”

Those beliefs operate like a virus in your mind, quietly influencing your relationships, your confidence, and the decisions you make every day.

Healing isn’t about pretending your childhood didn’t happen.

It’s about removing the pain and the false beliefs you carried because of it.

Only then can you make decisions from peace instead of pain.

And if a relationship has to end, don’t skip the grieving process.

Grieve the parent you wish you had.

Grieve the family you deserved.

Grieve the relationship that never became what you hoped it would.

Because what you refuse to grieve continues to control you.

If you’re ready to actually face the truth and pain behind what you are feeling and what you were taught…“There’s a Hole in My Love Cup” will take you there. This book will KICK your ass and change your life. You need it. But you gotta bring the courage. http://BadassCounseling.com/books

... Read moreFrom my experience, the most challenging part of breaking free from parental influence is not the act of cutting ties, but facing the deep-rooted emotions that linger beneath the surface. Many times, I found myself thinking that distancing from toxic family members would automatically bring relief. However, without addressing the internalized messages like "I'm not enough" or "My feelings don’t matter," those feelings kept resurfacing in new relationships and situations. Healing involves more than just physical separation; it requires confronting the pain and false beliefs that became part of your identity over the years. I discovered that journaling and therapy were invaluable tools in this process. By writing down my feelings and the moments that hurt me, I was able to understand how these childhood wounds shaped my self-worth and boundaries. Another crucial step is allowing yourself to grieve the family dynamics you never had but deserved. This grieving process was essential for me because it acknowledged the loss and the unmet needs. It’s important not to rush this stage or skip it altogether; the pain needs to be felt and processed fully to stop controlling your life. Furthermore, developing clear boundaries helped me regain control over my emotional wellbeing. Establishing what I would and would not tolerate in relationships prevented old patterns from repeating. Gradually, I noticed my decisions coming from a place of peace instead of pain, which positively impacted not only my romantic relationships but also friendships and work interactions. Finally, resources like “There’s a Hole in My Love Cup” can provide the courage and guidance needed to face these truths head-on. Books like this can push you out of denial and help you take charge of your healing journey. Remember, healing is an ongoing process, but once you start, you'll reclaim freedom from the influence that once controlled you.
