The best brown butter chocolate chip cookies

When I was younger, my parents owned a restaurant. It was a little Italian restaurant/cafe, and I was ALWAYS there helping my dad cook, and my mom bake. My mom taught me this little “secret recipe” as she likes to call it, but it’s not really a secret because she tells everyone about it 😂

I’ve been making this specific brown butter chocolate chip recipe with her since I was younger, and the perfect cozy & warm cookie recipe for fall!

INGREDIENTS:

- 12 tbsp unsalted butter (browned)

- 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed

- 1/2 cup granulated sugar

- 1 large egg

- 1 large egg yolk

- 2 tbsp whole milk

- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract

- 2 2/3 cup all purpose flour

- 1 tsp salt

- 1/2 tsp baking powder

- 1 tsp baking soda

- semi sweet & dark chocolate chips (I measure with my heart here, but a typical measurement would be 3/4 - 1 cup)

- flaky sea salt for finishing

- my moms secret ingredient: 1 Vanilla pudding packet

DIRECTIONS:

1. preheat oven to 350° & line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone sheets

2.brown the butter on low to medium heat. Use a stainless steel pan and chop your butter Into smaller pieces so it can help evenly. When your butter starts to foam, use a spatula to stir, this means the browning will happen soon. Keep stirring every so often. The bubbles/foam will begin to subside and you will see the butter turning brown. When it’s done, transfer to a heat safe bowl and let cool for 10-15 minutes

3. Beat in both sugars and brown butter together with a mixer

4. Add eggs, vanilla, milk & beat again

5. Sift in your dry ingredients and fold until combined. If tour dough feels too wet still from the brown butter, add in a tiny bit of flour at a time. If it feels too dry, add a tiny bit of milk

6. Fold in your semi sweet chocolate chips, save the dark chocolate

7. Create your golf ball sized cookies and dunk them in a bowl of the dark chocolate chips. You want the top of the cookie coated with chocolate chips

8. Put in fridge for 20/30 minutes

9. Add to your baking sheet and cook on 350° for about 12-13 minutes

10. The second they come out of the oven, add flaky sea salt to the top of them, let them rest on the pan for another minute or two, then transfer to a cooking rack
