Mom guilt doesn't make you a better, mom

It makes you a more stressed out one

A lower energy one

A less confident one

And, if were being honest, possibly a resentful one.

If you're like me, you grew up watching your mom do absolutely everything

She drove everyone to everything

Made all the meals

Cleaned the 🏠

Planned the trips

Worshipped God

Played games

Worked

Tucked you in at bed time

Hosted the parties

The list goes on and on and on

No doubt she did it because she loved you

Also no doubt she did it because it was demonstrated to her

You are not your mom

You are not your grandma

Their history does not have to be your story

You can be a great mom and say no to doing it all

You can be a wonderful wife and say "can you cover breakfast/bedtime every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday so I can go to the gym"

You can care for your family by caring for yourself

Choose you

Everyone will thank you for it

And maybe more importantly, you'll thank you for it

Frizzle 💃 💪 🤙

... Read moreAs a mom myself, I've experienced the heavy weight of mom guilt — that constant feeling that you're not doing enough or that you're somehow failing your family if you take time for yourself. But over time, I've learned that mom guilt is more damaging than helpful. Instead of making me a better mom, it drained my energy and left me feeling stressed and resentful. One key insight is realizing that prioritizing self-care actually makes me a stronger, more present mom. In my daily life, setting boundaries has been a game-changer. For example, asking my partner to cover morning routines or bedtime on specific days so I can exercise has not only improved my physical health but also my mental clarity. This division of responsibilities fosters teamwork rather than a feeling of going it alone, which is vital for both the relationship and parenting. Moreover, showing my children that self-care is important helps me raise confident girls who recognize their worth and know it’s okay to set their own priorities as they grow. It’s important to model healthy behaviors, so they understand that balancing care for others with care for themselves is a strength, not selfishness. Interestingly, many women experience autoimmune thyroid issues and other health challenges partly because they take on too much and neglect their own needs. Breaking this cycle involves intentional choices, such as saying no to some demands and yes to activities that rejuvenate your body and mind. Overall, accepting that you are not your mom or grandma and rewriting your story gives you permission to create healthier habits and boundaries. Remember, caring for yourself is a powerful way to care for your family. When you thrive, everyone around you benefits.

Setting boundaries isn’t about being rude. It’s about protecting your peace, your energy, and your emotional well-being. At some point, you realize that constantly being available for everyone else leaves you drained. And that’s not sustainable. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Start with this:
