Or is this an Android PC!?
Google may be returning to the desktop operating system market; the latter has a loose profile of a secret project being called "Aluminum OS," which many parties see as this could be a milestone for a dedicated PC version of Android.
.
The data came out of Google's own error when a bug report of Chrome Incognito mode was posted on Google Issue Tracker with a video attached from the machine running Aluminum OS before the evidence was later removed. The 9to5Google website was able to save the screen clip.
.
From the details that appear, Aluminum OS is a PC operating system that runs Android at its core, developed on the Android 16 platform and designed to allow Android to run on a full computer, not just on a mobile or tablet as it did in the past.
.
Interestingly, Google is testing this system on an HP Elite Dragonfly 13.5 Chromebook based on an Intel Core Gen 12 (Alder Lake-U) CPU, reflecting that the Aluminum OS can run slickly on the PC's x86 architecture, which has always been a significant change of direction from the Arm-oriented Android.
.
The interface side is described as a mix of ChromeOS, Android and macOS vibes, there is a Windows 11-like centered icon-aligned bottom Taskbar with a Gemini button for running AI instantly.
.
Google also has plans to combine ChromeOS and Android for PC under Aluminum OS, pushing AI like Gemini and the Gemma model to run on board through chips with built-in NPUs.
.
Even no official launch date has been announced, this drop-out of data clearly reflects that Google is ambushing Android development for the PC more aggressively.
