⭐️📚 Quick Reviews of Recent Reads 📚⭐️

2025/7/7 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, bookworms, let's dive a little deeper into these recent reads! You know how sometimes a book just hits you? That's exactly how I felt about a few of these, and I'm still processing some of them! First up, Feast of Sparks by Sierra Simone. Wow. Just… wow. When I said this one shocked me, I wasn't kidding. If you're into dark, intense romance with a deeply psychological edge and aren't afraid of taboo themes, this is definitely one to pick up. Sierra Simone has a way of crafting characters that get under your skin, and the world-building, though subtle, is incredibly immersive. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you love a story that pushes boundaries and leaves you questioning everything, give this a try. The ending? Let's just say I needed a moment (or several) to recover. Then there's The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling. This one felt like a wonderfully unsettling blend of dark fantasy and folk horror. The cover with the cloaked figure and honeycomb hints at something ancient and creepy, and the book delivers. It's got a slow-burn tension that builds beautifully, and the atmosphere is just chef's kiss if you love gothic vibes and stories that delve into the grotesque and mysterious. It made me think about hidden communities and the strange rituals people hold onto. Definitely a unique read that will stick with you long after the last page. The Skin You're In by Ashley Robin Franklin was a visual and visceral experience. The horror comic illustrations on the cover perfectly set the tone for what's inside – it’s raw, it’s unsettling, and it’s deeply psychological. This one really explores the uncomfortable truths about identity and perception in a way that’s both disturbing and thought-provoking. If you appreciate horror that's more about creeping dread and body horror than jump scares, and you don't mind a darker art style, this could be your next obsession. It really made me reflect on what makes us truly human, and what happens when that's challenged. And can we talk about The Reformatory by Tananarive Due? This was a powerful, haunting read. Set against the backdrop of a historical reform school, it weaves together elements of historical fiction with genuinely terrifying supernatural horror. The image of that small white house under an orange sky perfectly captures the deceptive tranquility before the terror unfolds. It's a story that’s not just scary, but also deeply moving and incredibly important, shedding light on a dark chapter of history through a lens of spectral dread. Due's writing is phenomenal, making you feel every injustice and every ghostly whisper. Finally, for those who love their fantasy with a darker, sexier edge, The Never King and The Dark One by Nikki St. Crowe are fantastic. These are definitely part of the spicy dark romance fantasy trend, often featuring morally grey characters and reimagined fairytales. The skull design on the covers screams 'villain romance,' and if that's your jam, you'll probably devour these. They're quick, addictive reads that are perfect for when you want something thrilling and a little bit naughty after a heavy literary meal. It's been such a journey through these pages, and I always love hearing what everyone else is thinking about their current reads. What are some of your recent reads that have left an impression? Let me know!

I'm so intrigued by the feast of sparks one. if you had your own ending (or whatever, like... what you wanted to happen, happened) would it be a 5 ⭐?

cozy rainy day reads ☔️
Rain + good books = the best cozy day Now, some of these aren’t exactly “cozy” books but they’re perfect for a day spent inside reading! I would say none of them are cozy in the sense that they’re feel-good lighthearted books, but these just feel like the right vibe for a rainy day. The Las

thrilling & chilling reads 👻
I’ll admit, I’m not a massive mystery/thriller reader but i enjoy them every now and then! All of these piqued my interest enough to land on my TBR, aside from The Need which i read earlier this year. The Need is technically categorized as a horror, but i don’t agree with that. It’s way more of

Who doesn’t like real life spooky stuff!! True crime is one of my favorite genres. I’m always down to read about some bad dude and their crimes. Dark and twisty is my jam and I’m not afraid to show it. Fun fact, people have been fascinated by true crime even before the Jack the Ripper killings.
