Healing with Tea.

As I continue studying herbalism, my love for tea has grown. To be quite honest as a teenager I was not a fan of tea. I mostly experienced commercial generic teas that provided little to no medicinal benefits.

Fast forward to now, I’ve taken classes on how to create tea blends, learned how to use herbs as a tea to heal the body, and what flowers to naturally sweeten or soften the taste.

I’m excited to see where else herbalism takes me. For now it’s here. 🌱

... Read moreAfter my initial introduction to the world of herbalism and realizing the profound difference real medicinal teas can make, many of you asked me for more specifics. How do I actually incorporate these healing herbs into my daily routine? And what are some easy-to-start-with options for effective herbal medicine therapy? I've found a few powerhouse herbs that have become staples in my 'tea time' rituals, especially when I need some gentle self-care. For instance, when I'm looking to unwind after a long week, particularly on a 'Friday night,' a cup of Chamomile tea is my absolute go-to. It's renowned for its calming properties. I simply steep a spoonful of dried chamomile flowers in hot water for about 5-7 minutes. It's amazing how quickly it helps quiet my mind and prepare for rest. This has become a crucial part of my evening 'routine' for stress relief and promoting restful sleep. Another herb I absolutely adore for its versatility is Peppermint. Not only does it taste incredibly refreshing, but it's fantastic for digestion. If I've had a heavier meal, a cup of freshly brewed peppermint tea works wonders to soothe my stomach. It can also give you a gentle energy boost without the jitters of caffeine, making it a great afternoon pick-me-up when I need a little focus. For a bit of warmth and immune support, especially during colder months, I frequently turn to Ginger. A few slices of fresh ginger steeped in hot water, sometimes with a squeeze of lemon and a tiny bit of honey, is my natural remedy for soothing a sore throat or settling an upset stomach. It's an invigorating part of my morning 'routine' that helps me feel ready for the day. And then there's Lemon Balm. This fragrant herb is a true gem for lifting spirits and easing nervous tension. I've been experimenting with growing it in my garden, and there's nothing quite like plucking fresh leaves for a brew. It has a subtle, citrusy flavor that's both comforting and uplifting. Incorporating these simple herbal infusions into my daily 'routine' has transformed how I approach my well-being. It's not just about drinking a beverage; it's about connecting with nature’s pharmacy and intentionally supporting my body and mind through these medicinal herbs. When you start exploring medicinal herbs for your teas, remember that quality matters. Look for organic, ethically sourced herbs from reputable suppliers. Experiment with different steeping times – generally, delicate leaves and flowers steep for less time (3-5 minutes) than tougher roots or bark (5-10 minutes or even simmered). And don't be afraid to create your own blends! For example, a mix of chamomile and lemon balm can be incredibly soothing for evening relaxation. Or peppermint and ginger for a powerful digestive aid. It’s a wonderful journey of discovery as you find what works best for your body and your 'tea time' preferences. Just a friendly reminder: while these herbs have been used for centuries for their therapeutic properties, they are powerful. If you have any underlying health conditions, are pregnant, or taking medication, it's always best to chat with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your herbal intake. Happy brewing and here's to more healing 'tea time'!
