5 THINGS I’D DO AS A GYM BEGINNER ‼️
❗️READ ME❗️
Knowing where to start your fitness journey can be overwhelming…
Here are 5 things I’d do as a beginner in the gym:
1️⃣: Focus on lifting weights 3-4x/week for 30-60 minutes.
Building muscle needs to be a priority as it boosts your metabolism, which is going to make your weight loss sustainable. This is a key component of fat loss and no, you’re not going to end up bulky.
2️⃣: Prioritize proper form and use a full range of motion.
Utilizing a full range of motion with proper form will allow you to reap the best results possible while minimizing injury. Stop the ego lifting and half reps, and drop the weight slighty if needs be.
3️⃣: Rest for at least 90 seconds in between your sets.
Fatigue accumulates with every exercise, set, and rep. It’s important to ensure you’re getting in enough rest between your sets, so you can achieve the greatest force output which will compound your progress over time.
4️⃣: Carbs before your workout, protein afterwards.
Eating carbs beforehand will give you sufficient energy to push yourself. Protein post-workout will help you recover more quickly and it can deepen your calorie deficit.
5️⃣: Understand that motivation comes and goes.
You’re not always going to feel 100% motivated and that’s completely normal. If you’re always waiting for motivation, you’ll wait forever. Take a little bit of action everyday, even if it’s imperfect.

As a beginner stepping into the gym world, one of the most important things I've learned is the value of consistency over perfection. Even on days when motivation is low, committing to showing up can make a huge difference in progress. Besides the key tips mentioned earlier, incorporating a warm-up and cool-down routine can significantly enhance workout effectiveness and reduce injury risk. Simple stretches and light cardio before your session prepare your muscles, while cooling down aids recovery. Hydration is often overlooked but essential—drinking enough water before, during, and after your workout supports optimal performance and muscle repair. Tracking your workouts using a journal or app helps monitor improvements in strength and endurance, keeping you motivated and accountable. Lastly, don't hesitate to ask gym staff or trainers for guidance on machines and exercises. Learning the correct technique from the start can save you from bad habits and injuries. Remember, fitness is a personal journey, so adapting these tips to what feels right for your body is key to long-term success.
