Gospel for today: Matthew 9:18-26
Gospel for today according to Saint Matthew
Matthew 9:18-26
While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward,
knelt down before him, and said,
""My daughter has just died.
But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live.""
Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.
A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him
and touched the tassel on his cloak.
She said to herself, ""If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.""
Jesus turned around and saw her, and said,
""Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.""
And from that hour the woman was cured.
When Jesus arrived at the official's house
and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,
he said, ""Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping.""
And they ridiculed him.
When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand,
and the little girl arose.
And news of this spread throughout all that land.

The passage from Matthew 9:18-26 vividly captures two profound miracles performed by Jesus, illustrating key themes of faith, healing, and resurrection central to Christian belief. In this account, Jesus responds to an official's desperate plea to bring his deceased daughter back to life. Amid skepticism from onlookers who ridicule Jesus’ declaration that the girl is merely sleeping, Jesus calmly commands the crowd to disperse and raises the girl by taking her hand. This miracle demonstrates not only Jesus' divine authority over death but also emphasizes the transformative power of faith and the compassion intrinsic to his ministry. In parallel, the story of the woman suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years enriches the narrative by highlighting the intersection of faith and healing. Despite her prolonged illness and isolation, the woman believes that even touching Jesus’ cloak will restore her health. Jesus’ recognition and affirmation of her faith — "Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you" — not only heals her physically but also restores her dignity. This story reflects the biblical theme that faith acts as a conduit for divine healing and salvation. The OCR-extracted phrases such as "THE POWER", "AND THE BLEEDING WOMAN", and "TO RESTORE LIFE AND HEAL" reinforce the miracles’ focus in this passage. They emphasize Jesus’ compassionate response to human suffering and his power to restore life and health. The exhortations like "BELIEVING SHE WOULD BE" and "COMPASSION" encapsulate the essence of the Gospel message — that belief in Jesus’ power and compassion brings about miraculous transformation. These two miracles serve as profound reminders for contemporary readers of the importance of faith, persistence, and trust in divine intervention during life's trials. They convey assurance that even when situations seem impossible, as in death or chronic illness, there is hope through spiritual faith. Furthermore, this passage invites reflection on the themes of spiritual courage and the social implications of healing. The healed woman, suffering for twelve years, symbolizes those marginalized by illness and societal stigma. Jesus' intervention breaks barriers, showing that faith can triumph over despair and exclusion. In summary, Matthew 9:18-26 powerfully illustrates Jesus’ role as a healer and life-restorer, highlighting faith as the vital element that unlocks divine grace. This passage continues to inspire believers today, encouraging them to approach challenges with trust in God’s compassion and power to renew life.
