🤖 AI may be smarter every day, but behind the scenes, it takes a huge amount of electricity, water and space.
On June 23, 2026, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres proposes the "AI Environmental Transparency Initiative," calling on major AI companies to transparently disclose the environmental impacts of their systems - carbon footprint, water use and space.
According to 🌍 the UN, AI-compatible data centers are expanding so rapidly that many communities do not know how much resources they use locally.
⚡ By 2030, data centers could consume so much electricity that they are comparable to the world's top high-energy countries, while the demand for water to cool systems is also increasing.
The UN also urges companies to apply renewable energy to all data centres by 2030, but the proposal is also a "call," not a mandatory global law.
The question is, should AI companies be legally forced to disclose environmental costs? Because AI intelligence may not be as free as we see on screen.
