Day 1 - Core
Time to go back to it roots - yoga! I’ve been doing yoga for almost 30 years and although I know the benefits of weight training I love going back to yoga! I’ve been doing quite a bit of long haul driving for my job and it’s taken a toll on my body. Going back to yoga will help me re-center myself so I don’t feel like a 62 year old!
As someone who has extensively practiced weightlifting and strength training over the years, I can attest to the physical demands those activities place on the body. Over time, despite the strength gains, I began to notice stiffness and muscular imbalances that creeping into my daily life, especially after long hours of driving. Returning to yoga has been a game-changer for me. Yoga complements strength training by enhancing flexibility, improving joint mobility, and promoting better posture. The gentle stretching and controlled breathing techniques help alleviate muscle tightness and reduce chronic aches, which is especially beneficial for those like me who spend substantial time sitting or driving. Importantly, yoga also addresses mental well-being by helping to reduce stress and improve focus. Many believe weight training alone is sufficient for health, but integrating yoga brings a balanced approach that supports longevity and functional fitness. It allows your body to recover and adapt more effectively, preventing injuries and maintaining youthful vitality. My personal journey back to yoga reminds me that age doesn’t have to dictate how we feel physically or mentally. Embracing these holistic practices keeps me energized and grounded, helping me defy the typical 62-year-old stereotypes.
