If you would’ve told me a year ago that I’d finish a 24-mile endurance trail race in 90° heat, I probably would’ve laughed.
Today reminded me that we’re capable of so much more than we think. Growth doesn’t happen by staying comfortable—it happens when you show up, trust your training, and refuse to quit.
This finish line means more than miles. It represents resilience, belief, and proof that limits are often just starting points.

Running a 24-mile endurance trail race in 90° heat was a challenge I never imagined I could face, especially since my longest run before was only 11 miles. This experience taught me that preparation isn't just about physical training, but also mental resilience. On race day, I made sure to hydrate thoroughly and adjust my pacing to manage the intense heat. One key takeaway was how important it is to trust your training regimen. Even when your body feels exhausted or doubts creep in, consistent training builds a foundation that you can rely on during the toughest moments. For me, breaking the race into smaller milestones helped maintain motivation—focusing on reaching the next checkpoint instead of the entire distance all at once. Nutrition also played a vital role. I experimented with energy gels and electrolyte drinks during my long runs beforehand, so I knew exactly what worked best for me on race day. Wearing appropriate gear, like moisture-wicking clothes and a hat, made a big difference in managing sweat and sun exposure. Most importantly, the finish line symbolized growth beyond physical miles—it was a nod to the inner strength that develops when you push beyond your comfort zone. If you’re thinking of trying a long-distance race, my advice is to believe in your potential, listen to your body, and celebrate every step forward. Such experiences prove that limits are often just starting points for what you can achieve.
