BEEF SHAWARMA 🌯 one of my favorite meals and so much better than chicken shawarma imo 🫣
RECIPE:
2lb ribeye or flap meat
1 onion, thinly sliced
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2-3 tbsp 7 spice (it should smell like it)
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tbsp salt (add more later if needed)
1/4 white vinegar
Marinate for at least an hour.
Parsley Sumac Salad:
1 bunch of parsley, minced finely
1/4 small red onion, diced thin
1 tbsp sumac
Drizzle olive oil
1 lemon, juiced
Tarator (tahini sauce):
1/2 cup tahini paste
Juice of a small lemon
1 tsp salt
1 clove of garlic
Water (for consistency)
Start with 2 tbsp of water and add as you need to thin it out. I ended up adding about 1/4 cup.
I like to use an immersion blender, you could just mince the garlic and use a whisk.
I absolutely adore Beef Shawarma, and while the recipe I shared is my favorite for a reason, there's always more to explore when it comes to making this Middle Eastern delight truly your own! I’ve learned a few tricks over time that can make your homemade Beef Shawarma even more convenient, adaptable, and utterly delicious. First, let's talk about cooking that perfectly marinated meat. While pan-frying is quick, if you want that authentic, slightly charred texture, I highly recommend trying your oven or even a grill. For the oven, spread your marinated beef in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast at a high temperature (around 400-425°F or 200-220°C) for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway, until beautifully browned. If you have an air fryer, it's fantastic for getting crispy edges quickly! This makes your homemade shawarma meat incredibly flavorful and tender, just like your favorite take-out spot. Now, about serving – the possibilities are endless! While a plate with the salad and sauce is wonderful, I often turn my Beef Shawarma into a hearty beef shawarma wrap or a refreshing beef shawarma salad. For wraps, warm up some pita bread, spread a generous layer of the creamy Tahini Tarator sauce, add your cooked beef, a spoonful of the zesty Sumac Salad, and perhaps some sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and pickled turnips (my personal favorite!). If you're going for a beef shawarma salad, pile your greens high, add the beef, the Parsley Sumac Salad, a drizzle of Tahini Tarator, and maybe some crumbled feta or toasted pita chips for crunch. It’s such an easy way to enjoy a satisfying meal. Regarding the marinade, it's the heart of any easy beef shawarma recipe! My blend of 7 spice, yogurt, and vinegar works wonders. The yogurt and vinegar act as tenderizers, breaking down the meat fibers, while the spices infuse deep flavor. For those curious about different regional flavors, you can slightly adjust the spice blend. A tiny pinch of ground cardamom or a touch of allspice can add another layer of aromatic depth, hinting at flavors found in some egyptian beef shawarma recipe or nigerian beef shawarma recipe variations, without straying too far from the original deliciousness. Don't be afraid to experiment with the beef shawarma marinade ingredients to find your perfect balance. And for busy bees, beef shawarma meal prep is totally doable! I love marinating the beef a day or two in advance – it just gets better with time. You can also chop all your salad ingredients and prepare the Tahini Tarator sauce ahead of time, storing them separately in airtight containers. Then, when you're ready for dinner, all you have to do is cook the beef and assemble! It makes weeknight meals a breeze and ensures you always have a delicious, healthy option on hand.
