Why do some men make everything a joke?
I have plenty of women friends but maybe two male friends. (I work in an all-women environment and all our clients are women.) I find that conversing with women is super easy for me. With men, if I gush “my boss is so supportive, I’m lucky to have her”, they crack a dumb joke. If I say “I could never live in that state, I’d stick out” joke again. Even when my co-host and I talked about domestic violence in movies on our podcast, a guy acquaintance joked “my wife beats me up”, his wife didn’t even speak. I was so annoyed, I swore never to share an episode with them again. I’m not saying be serious 24/7! But why the constant facetiousness? It’s so tone-deaf, I just shut down. They hide behind bad jokes instead of caring. I’m fine with my girl crew but I’m confused. Anybody else deal with guys turning every talk into a joke? What’s up with that?

Men make everything a "joke" because it gives them a way to be blatantly disrespectful and put the blame on us when we react accordingly. It's never a joke until we get upset.
