BEGINNING TO RUN?? TIPS AS A BEGINNER
HIIIII!!!
I am currently training for a 10k and here are some tips and tricks I have learned so far!!!
1) run for time not miles :
- running for time instead of miles will make it MUCH easier to accomplish. My first day running I said I was going to run for 20 minutes, and it was a breeze, then I started to increase my time all the way to an hour.
2) START SLOW:
- go slower than you think (slow wins the race!!) this will allow you to work on stamina and time, then from there you can increase your speed, running for an hour I only ran a 12:45 pace, AND THATS OK! I am just started to get my stamina and endurance up so that’s huge!!
3) Run/walk method:
- the run/walk method is run for ____ minutes and walk for ___ minutes. I started with running for 3, walk for 1. From there I went to run for 10, walk for 3 and so on. This also helps with endurance
4) the PRE and AFTER care:
- STRETCH, FUEL, REPEAT. For the best run you need to fuel your body, you are burning calories quick and will cramp if you don’t! Electrolytes are also very important. Stretch, roll out, warm up, all before your run and after stretch, roll out, and cool down walk to avoid injury
5) Strava:
- I LOVE this app. Me and one of my girlfriends are both training for a 10k so it holds us accountable. Great way to find tracks/paths around your area and just have some fun with it
