Here’s how I have 80% of my work done before lunch

🌙 1. Plan Your Day the Night Before

I used to waste my mornings deciding what to do. Now, I write my to-do list the night before, so when I wake up, I know exactly what’s waiting for me. That clarity saves mental energy and helps me hit the ground running.

🔢 2. Use the 3+2 Rule

Instead of drowning in a long list, I choose 3 big tasks and 2 small ones. It keeps my day realistic, and I actually finish what I start. I’ve stopped feeling guilty about “not doing enough”—because I’m finally getting the right things done.

🐸 3. Eat the Frog First

If I don’t tackle my hardest task first, I’ll avoid it all day. “Eating the frog” means doing the most challenging thing first thing in the morning. Once that’s out of the way, everything else feels so much easier—it sets the tone for a productive day.

⏱️ 4. Start With a Power Hour

I set a timer for 60 minutes and dive into focused work—no phone, no tabs, no distractions. It’s wild how much I can finish in one focused hour compared to three distracted ones. I feel unstoppable after this.

🧠 5. Batch Similar Tasks

Instead of jumping from writing to emails to errands, I group similar tasks together. This way, my brain stays in the same mode longer, and I don’t waste energy switching gears. It’s a small shift that saves a ton of time.

... Read moreBeyond just the routines, I've found that my physical workspace plays a huge role in my productivity. It's not just about having a pretty 'studygram desk setup' for photos, though that's a bonus! A well-organized, inspiring space actually boosts focus and reduces distractions, which ties right into getting 80% of my work done before lunch. For me, a clean desk is a clear mind. I make sure to declutter daily, often taking just five minutes at the end of the day or before my 'power hour' starts. My setup includes my laptop, an external monitor (a game-changer for multitasking!), and a simple but comfy chair that supports good posture. I also have a small plant and a few motivational sticky notes, just like you might have seen in some of my pics! These aren't just decor; they create a positive vibe that makes me want to sit down and get started, especially when facing that 'eat the frog' task. Lighting is another big one. Natural light is always best, but I also have a good desk lamp to keep eye strain at bay during longer sessions. Keeping my stationery organized in trays means I'm not wasting time searching for a pen when I need it most. It's all about creating an environment that supports deep work, rather than hindering it, and making my study space a place I actually enjoy being in. And speaking of tools, my tablet has become an indispensable part of my workflow, especially for those tasks that require a bit more flexibility or quick access. While the article mentioned my 'power hour' on the laptop, my tablet often comes into play for various "o flow" uses throughout the day, helping me maintain momentum. I primarily use my tablet for digital note-taking. Apps like Goodnotes or Notability are fantastic for capturing ideas, annotating PDFs, or even sketching out concepts. This helps reinforce the 'Plan Your Day the Night Before' step, as I can quickly outline tasks or brainstorm on the go, even when I'm away from my main desk. It's also brilliant for quick research or reading articles without getting sucked into the black hole of my main computer. When I'm batching similar tasks, I might use my tablet to review documents or respond to emails that don't require heavy typing, keeping my main screen free for more intensive work. It’s a great way to manage those '2 small tasks' from the 3+2 rule, or even for some light 'eating the frog' if it involves a quick but important review. Plus, it's super handy for digital planning, keeping my to-do lists and schedules accessible without needing to open another tab on my laptop. It truly helps maintain that focused 'flow' state and ensures I’m making the most of every minute, even before lunch!
