How do I Make Friends In College?

2025/1/29 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I totally get where you're coming from with feeling lonely in college. It's a huge campus, new people everywhere, and sometimes it feels like everyone already has their group. I've been there, staring at my phone between classes, wondering How do I Make Friends In College? It's a classic college dilemma, and honestly, it's something many of us wrestle with, even if we don't always show it. What makes college friendships so iconic that we even search for 'clg friends quotes'? I think it's because these aren't just any friends; they're the people you're navigating a huge life transition with. They see you through late-night study sessions fueled by questionable coffee, epic weekend adventures, and those moments of self-discovery that only happen when you're finally out on your own. My own experience has taught me that the bonds formed during these years are incredibly special and often last a lifetime. They become your chosen family, cheering you on and picking you up when things get tough. That's why those quotes resonate so much – they capture the essence of these unique connections. So, based on my own journey and what I've seen work for others, here are a few things that have helped me (or that I wish I'd done sooner!) to make friends: Be Open to Everything: That random flyer for a club meeting? The study group forming in your lecture? Say yes! Even if it's outside your comfort zone, these low-stakes environments are perfect for meeting people with shared interests. I once joined a terrible intramural soccer team, and while we lost every game, I made some of my best friends on that field. Embrace the Dorm Life (if you have it): If you're living on campus, your dorm floor is a goldmine. Prop your door open, hang out in common areas, and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation. Order pizza with your neighbors, or ask if anyone wants to walk to the dining hall together. Small interactions build big friendships. Utilize Campus Resources: Your college likely has clubs, events, and even mentorship programs. Check out the student activities fair – you might find your people in the Anime Club or the Debate Team. I found my creative tribe in the campus literary magazine, and it felt like finding a missing piece of myself. Don't Be Afraid to Initiate: It takes courage, but sometimes you just have to be the one to ask, "Hey, want to grab coffee after class?" or "Are you going to the game tonight?" Most people are probably just as nervous as you are and will appreciate someone taking the lead. Give it Time (and Be Yourself!): Friendships don't always happen overnight. It's a process of shared experiences and genuine connection. Don't try to be someone you're not; the best friends are the ones who love you for exactly who you are. The right people will gravitate towards your authentic self. It's okay to feel lonely, but it’s also important to remember that there are so many people looking for those connections too. Let's keep sharing our tips and experiences – together, we can make college a place where everyone feels like they belong and has those 'clg friends' memories to cherish!
