College life at UM💖

Here’s a little glimpse into how I spend my weekends here at UM.

🫧 On Thursday, I went to sunset yoga hosted by our student government. They had free açaí bowls and I had a great and relaxing workout.

🎄On Saturday, I went to one of the biggest Christmas parties of the year. It was so much fun!

🌊On Sunday, we went on a boat for a friend’s birthday.

I love UM college life because of the balance and diversity it gives me in what I do for fun.

... Read moreIt's true, college life at UM isn't just about hitting the books; it’s about discovering a vibrant community and creating unforgettable memories. My weekends are a testament to the incredible balance you can strike here, and I've learned a few things that might help you make the most of your own experience! First off, finding these amazing activities isn't always obvious. I highly recommend getting involved with student government or checking out the countless student organizations. That's how I found out about the sunset yoga sessions, complete with free açaí bowls – it was such a relaxing way to unwind under the palm trees after a busy week. Keep an eye on campus event calendars; you'd be surprised by how many free or low-cost events are organized, from movie nights to cultural festivals. Networking with friends is also key! My boat trip for a friend's birthday, where we were swimming in the clear blue water, was a spontaneous adventure that came from just chatting with classmates. You might even spot a cruise ship in the distance while enjoying the ocean breeze! Speaking of balance, it’s not always easy to juggle fun and academics. My trick is to plan my study time efficiently during the week, so I can truly relax on the weekends. I also find that having diverse activities, like a high-energy Christmas-themed party in Santa hats one night and a peaceful yoga session the next, actually helps prevent burnout. Miami offers such a unique backdrop; sometimes, just taking a walk by the water or finding a quiet spot under a palm tree can be a great mental break. Budgeting for fun is another big one. While some events might be pricier, there are plenty of ways to enjoy UM life without breaking the bank. Student organizations often host free food events or discounted outings. For things like the big Christmas party, splitting costs with friends for tickets or transportation makes it much more affordable. And let's not forget the natural beauty of Miami – a day spent at the beach or exploring a local park costs next to nothing. Even some boat trips can be surprisingly accessible if you join a group or find deals. Finally, staying safe while having fun is crucial. Whether it’s a lively party or a boat excursion, always go with a buddy or let someone know where you’re headed. Be mindful of your surroundings, especially during larger events. When enjoying water activities like swimming in the ocean from a boat, always prioritize safety and never swim alone. The goal is to have amazing experiences, and being responsible ensures those memories are happy ones. Embrace the journey, explore all the diverse opportunities UM offers, and you’ll find your own perfect rhythm between studies and unforgettable adventures!
