Build a 15-Item Grocery Price Book
A sale sign does not tell you whether the price is actually good.
Choose 15 items you buy often. Record package size, shelf price, store, and date. Divide the price by
ounces, pounds, or count so every option uses the same unit. After several observations, set a personal
buy price.
The oats example shows why: $4.79 for 42 ounces is 11.4¢ per ounce, lower than two packages that
look cheaper or larger.
Grocery Envelope™ answers the second question: even at a good unit price, how much is safe to spend
right now?
