He famously avoided refined flours, processed foods, and empty calories. Instead, his diet revolved around nutrient-dense whole foods that provided sustained energy for his demanding lifestyle. From what I've gathered, he ate several small meals a day. His go-to staples included plenty of vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins like beef and fish.
